okay. Here is a dumb question. I want to know why my WP blog post links look like this:

    http://www.vancouvergamesforum.com/?p=50
    Code (markup):
but on other WP blogs that I read they look like this:

    http://success.grownupgeek.com/index.php/2008/09/24/put-website-out-there/
    Code (markup):
What is the difference? Which is better? How do I do that to my blog post links?

    Hello buffy,

For SEO purpose 2nd one look perfect.

You can do that easily as you want through going to 'Settings -> Permalinks' and select option there as you want.

    Hopt it helps.

Yep as deluxd said, use the permalinks feature in wordpress.. This way it will use your post titles as the end part of the URL.

I like to use the custom structure setting with this in it - /%postname%/

However many people like to use the date structure, which shows those dates in the URL to show what date the post was made. In that case use one of the date or month structures in the permalink settings.

Thanks. I found it and made the change.

Is changing it now going to mess up any of the backlinks? Will the old urls still point to the same post?

Yeah, that is what Boulder suggested too... Can you tell me why? What's the advantage? Is it just better because it's shorter?
