Any Ideas

I hope this is the right place.

I have been working on this site abit and have done most SEO things that I know, link building, keyword research - selection etc and comparing to my competition I think I should be doing abit better traffic wise. The site has also online for 12 months at this point.

Where I seem to be having trouble is in getting the internal pages to have page rank and to rank at all. It is kind of random where I have some internal pages, page rank 2 or 3 and then the next page nothing. There has been nothing different done to these pages, one over the other and even in google webmasters these internal pages with and without page rank both show no links linking to them.

I guess my question on this is whether the picking up of the pages is just random and it is a matter of time or there is a way around this. Or whether something is wrong in the site which I overlooked.

    Thanks

Check out Matt Cutts blog, I can't do links yet, but read what that man has to say for starters.

Read on link building (the must give advice.....)

I think the reason for inconsistency of PR in inner pages has to with your internal linking. Try to link to sub and relevant pages from main pages. Also try to add some descriptions to your sitemap... at least for main links... having only links in sitemap sometimes may not look good to SE bots....

One of the things I have done is have 15+ links to major pages from the homepage from the body text, but again we have some random results. Some pages with these links have PR others do not, same again inconsistant.

    Thanks for the advice.

It takes a while to be able to rank well with internal pages. Usually a site can only rank with its homepage until it gets more quality backlinks. Once the domain gets enough authority, you will find it easier to rank with your inner pages. You will probably still need some external backlinks pointing to those pages though.

Thanks, I had thought that might of been an issue time, but 12 months is abit already. What time estimates would you have for the domain gaining authority. Will look for some external links to some of the pages also.

    Thanks

The majority of the work I have done has been homepage links at this point, I have 2 or 3 forums also and have been posting some deep links there but not alot. But where I am confused is why some internal pages that do not have links to them rank higher than ones that do. I guess this could be just luck of the search gods.

But the other part of this which I have trouble with is I have another site which has been online 6 months, only 6 pages all have PR and I have done no backward links hardly at all on it, and only homepage and a handful. So somehow the internal pages of this site have PR with no work at all.

Have you considered using anchor text and creating in-content links to link up other pages? This is much better than relying on archive or page navigation alone.
