Can't Edit Category Name / Slug in Wordpress 2.6.1

I'm having an odd problem that I'm hoping someone has a solution to.

At www.AllFreelanceWriting.com, I've tried changing the Publicity / Marketing category to just Marketing (including the slug) a few times this morning. The change never happens (I don't get any error message).

To make matters more confusing, I was able to change the name on another category from "writing books" to "book writing" without any problem - that's reflected in the current category list.

Any ideas as to why this specific category just won't change?

I'm not really sure why it won't change for you but you could try changing it though the database manually and see if that works.

just be sure to take a backup first.

Thanks. Went into the database to change it, and got an error. Turns out the problem was that there was a tag or something with the "marketing" slug somewhere, so that's why it wouldn't save. At least I could change the name. That'll have to do I suppose.

Ah, i never thought of that. You could try just changing the slug of the tag to say marketing-2 that way you can have the category have the slug marketing.

If it wont let you create the category at all you can create a category like "Marketing2" with slug "Marketing2" and then edit the cat name later back to "Marketing."

It will then let you have the category marketing just with a different slug.

    Hope that helps.

create a new category, give it whatever name, make it default for writing.
    Settings>Writing
Then delete the category Marketing, ur post will get transfered to new category, later u can rename it :)

U might face problems, if posts are in multiple categories.

Yeah, there were some in multiple categories for that one. Thanks for the suggestion though. :) The problem is fixed currently after doing it manually in the database.

I just had the same problem after I upgraded to Wordpress 2.6.2 from 2.3.3(?).

I couldn't figure out how to change the post slug before I posted. After I posted, I noticed the very small area below the title where you do this. So I edited the post slug, and saved it. It would not save.

I google'd this, and also searched on Wordpress's Support Forums. I could not find the answer. Obviously, there is something that needs to be changed somewhere. It doesn't seem like everyone is having a problem, so it might be in the Theme?
