I am thinking of 7 prizes like this, what you think of this?
1st prize: $60
2nd prize: $40
3rd Prize: $20
4th Prize: $10
5th Prize: $10
6th Prize: $10

$60 is kind of cheap, I'd make it at least $100 for top prize

What is the contest for? Maybe you can offer a VIP section for free as a bonus too. I think Prizes like iPods are very good, especially when the winner posts up a pic with his new ipod, more people will probably participate seeing that.

But if your website's good I'll rather take a text link on your homepage! I'm just too hungry of web links at the moment.

 

You are organising a contest for the webmaster forum, the one in your signature. Right? Well I dont think cash will be the right way to go. Provide something that your member can put in use. Be creative and unique with your contest. This will help you in spreading the word.

 

Well according to me 1st prize should be at least between $100 to $ 150

 

1st Prize - 100
2nd Prize - 75
3rd Prize - 50

No need for the others

 

I agree with MegaMania. Think about it: the prizes isn't inspire you if there are many and the difference between them is minimal.

 

This is the first time actually I am trying it as increasing the number of prizes. So I had to go little cheap on it But the good thing is I intend to do it every month.

 

It depends who are the people at your site are. If it's a forum about Apple computers then you can get away Apple prizes. You can probably work out advertising deals with the providers of the prize(s) so then the value of the prizes would be more than what you'd be offering in cash ($60 is pretty cheap for 1st place).

 

thats a fabulous idea actually. think i gonna try to incorporate that somehow in upcoming contests. rep added pal.
