As the economy continues to worsen do you think it will help or hurt online business? I feel that many individuals will turn to the web for business due to the lower cost of running business... What do you guys think?

it has profited me atleast in india , before the crisis the rate was $1= rs 40 now its rs 47 . that means when i got a recent check of $500 i got rs26,000 where as before the crisis i would have made only rs 20000 that means a profit of rs 6k which converts to $125 profit on earlier rates

now i can use the money when economy will be normal
thats my theory , i may be wrong but it has benefited me very much

Doesn't always work that way if you count in the higher inflation rate due to the bad economy, higher energy bill, higher food price ...

For me ... the bad economy hurtmy online business, everything almost halt to a stand still now ... Sucks.

I don't have to pay bills or anything, so it's been a good thing for me. Before $1 was around £0.50, now it's like £0.57 (well it was last time I checked). Means that I get more in Adsense, and also when I get paid, I'm effectively getting paid more, but when I buy services here it costs me more than it would have.

Personally, overall, I'm not sure whether it's good or bad. I suppose the current state of the economy has left a lot of people unemployed, so they'll be spending more time online, but then if you don't have a job then they are unlikely to be spending money, so I think it could be a bad thing for affiliates but a good thing for people with Adsense and similar programs.

I think it will hurt us , because Advertisers will pay less and we'll notice some drop in domain prices and in CPC which is even more important

I think with the current crisis, we're going to get a lot of people try to jump on the cyber bandwagon, and this could profit some people, and boost the online economy

I think the global economy will start to follow America's lead.

I just saw on the news to European banks collapsed, and markets are down around the world.

There is not much positive from this as people and businesses will curb spending even more...

Have you ever repelled from a mountain? What happens if the person in the lead falls? Of course the crisis here in the states will affect your online business. You think people will continue to test bull**** affiliate programs and test bull**** marketing schemes that the internet marketing and services world provides when the money is tight? No sir. If the banks fail, then there is no money lent, if there is no money lent, there is no business growth, because they will not spend their own capital here in America. Now if there is no growth, they cannot afford loss, so since they cannot afford loss, there is the elimination of jobs. So there is no free time to "try and succeed on the internet" when you desperately have to go out and seek work. While this is going on, all companies are selling out their stock to cover their losses while they can. For the people who think that this crisis will be better for them, or it is funny, and that because it is in America, it will have no effect upon them, such as the moron above under the name kodut. You will soon be out of work. No tiki, No wash.

Good question. I guess it depends on the nature of the business. My site contains classified ads for pets - I'm anticipating business will drop off a bit as people reshuffle their priorities. Less people will be interested in buying pets when the money is tight!
