Buying your way into DMOZ?

I was at getafreelancer today and saw this project http://www.getafreelancer.com/projects/Web-Promotion/DMOZ-listing-needed.html

Wonder if this works? I would assume that the folks bidding are DMOZ editors or knows one that is on the take.

 

It is a very risky strategy, attempting to bribe an editor is about one of the few things that will get your site permanently banned.

It is most certainly true that some sites have managed to buy their way in.

It is also true that many sites have been permanently banned for trying to buy their way in.

And of course it's also true that many have spent money to try to buy their way on, and have both lost their money and failed to be listed.

It's anyone's guess what the percentages are.

I'm not sure why sites that attempt to bribe an editor are banned. If the site is good, then why shouldn't it get listed?

 

This kind of crap can be found all over the web. People buying a listing, people auctioning off their editorships on eBay, etc. This sort of thing is one the big reasons that DMOZ is not highly regarded these days.

Anyone paying $XXXX for a directory listing or an editorship, for that matter, needs to have their head examined.

That sounds interesting. Can you find one for sale now? I would really like to see one. I tried on Ebay, Google and others and only found some reference of it happening in the past. Most turned out to be the same one. I'm sure that it happens but I wonder how often that really happens.

Then there is the question on what kinda perms that editor had in the first place. If he/she was only editing in Regional/North_America/United_States/North_Dakota/Localities/G/Grandin/ then not much damage would occur. He would have to prove to be a good editor to request other categories.

 

Haven't you heard about outlet centers? Nobody pays full price these days.

 

Behind the scenes, there are people in the SEO/Internet Marketing business buying/selling listings and editorships. Not many get sold out in public. The idiot that was selling his editorship on eBay was a retard, and may not have been legit in the first place. For awhile, there was a website up claiming to be an editor and was selling listings for like 300 bucks I think. Site was closed down though, possibly due to scamming. People serious about buying and selling lisitngs and editorships would NOT auction it on eBay, webmaster forums, or put up a GeoCities site advertising it.

Agree, a friend of mine has an excellent fan site submittend to DMOZ and the editors followed the link to a complementary site linked to the main.

The result: her both fan websites are listed and going for her third year in 2006 without bribe nobody, just keeping good quality.

i know of this one editor who's also a webmaster..he's got his entire
clients listed on dmoz..and me been 2 years plus waiting on the same cat and no response..I should just spam them..hell with em!

 

Actually it is also equally one of the sure fire methods of getting your site listed too. Shhh...

Then why hasn't it been rejected in those 2 years? Apparently, you could determine in a couple of minutes that it didn't meet the criteria. Did you reject it?
