How long to shake the "New Site" penalties off?

I started a new site 3 months ago and I completely forgot how difficult it was trying to grow a new site! Just like every other site -- great rankings a week or two in, then terrible rankings, then good rankings/delistings/bad rankings and just general SERP dancing.

How long does it usually take to shake off the new site penalties that google loves giving people?

The Google "Sandbox" lasts from 6 months to 8 months depending on when your site was first indexed and how that relates to the Page Rank Updates. But this is what I think. There has been no real survey or benchmark on this. I have two sites in it right now, both are at the 6 month mark and nothing yet.

DP has a "Sandbox" section, check it out.

6 months to year, is what I have found.

Sounds pretty straight forward I suppose. It took my first site about 6 months to really start kicking ass in the SERPS.

I forgot how much it sucked waiting, haha.
