Blogspot to Wordpress?

Discussion in 'WordPress' started by glendowney, Sep 25, 2008.

Right, i've being given a blogspot blog and was wandering if its possible to redirect the blogspot domain to my own domain that i'm setting up on a wordpress blog.

For example, the blogspot domain is www.yoursite.blogspot.com and when people go to that they get redirected to www.mysite.com

Is that possible and if so how would I go about doing it?

Also the blogspot domain has a PR4, would that still count even though i'm redirecting it to a PR0 domain?

Not sure buddy. In my opinion though, stick with Blogger, it has much less bugs than Wordpress and is easier to use. Check out my blogs in my signature.

yes you ca redirect it easily. go to dashboard of you blogger account.

    Then go to Settings>Publishing.

Then select switch to custom domain.

And, the pagerank will apply only to your blogspot address as far as i know.

I have to disagree. Check out the wordpress blogs in my signature. (First and third link )

Blogger is limited, and you don't own it, Google does.
With a self hosted wordpress blog you can do anything you want, and make it look how ever you want.
    There are no limitations.

Yea, I've owned tonnes of wordpress blogs, but was given the blogspot blog by someone, and wanted to get it moved to wordpress. However the blogspot domain is PR4 and I don't want to lose that, plus its getting some traffic so I don't know whether to move it to wordpress and risk losing traffic.

I do not believe so, your new domain name will be indexed as new PageRank..

there were many discussions here I saw, even www.ursite.com and ursite.com has different pagerank, that's why you need to stick to one URL.. which is better..

I wrote an article about uniform URL here..

so, stick with your blogspot URL.. there's no need to promote all over again for different URL, just my 2 cents

    Hey here is my suggestion.
First publish on a custom domain using blogger
As you start getting traffic on your custom domain then host it on wordpress.

Maybe you should put a link in the header of you blogspot site to your wordpress site to pass pr and set up a javascript redirect...

For me, a newbie can use blogger blogspot, but I think if you will self-hosting a blog, WP is better. Blogger is owned by Google, that's why.

    Just a thought.

I've decided to do the re-direct to another domain and use wordpress instead.

I've never used Blogspot before, always hosted sites myself using wordpress, joomla, or just html pages but i've being given this site and don't have a clue how to edit the template or anything lol, so probably best to just get it on wordpress as i'm more used to working with that :)

Thanks for the all the help too :)

do one thing.. place a java script in your blogger... Dont disturb your blog and the traffic.. let the blog continue... write JS and ask the JS to popup a message box after some time and drive them to your new website

if you change it to a new domain you will loose PR.. and if you use the blogger custom domain you may regain the PR at the next update.(i am not sure of that)..
