I Notice There Are More Than One Version, There Is The 2003 And The 2007, One Is Cheaper Than The Other, I Am Lost, I Need Help If I Get The 2003 And I Send A File To Someone Who Has 2007 Will They Be Able To Open It?

Excel 2007 is a dog, graphing performance is atrocious even with the supposed "fix" applied. I like some of the features on the graphs and the look of some of them, but the performance hit isn't worth it.

a 2007 owner will be able to open a 2003 but a 2003 can not open a 2007. i used to do some projects in my school and they have the newer one. i go home and try to acces it. never works. so i change it to 2003 before changing or i just copy the text to my email and send it to myself just in case something goes wrong.

using office 2007 (using MS word) the extension will be .docx i think

but You can save a file in 2007 like .doc

both are compatible with each other

 

There's also a thingy you can download for 2003 to read the .docx, .xlsx etc files. I believe the first time you try to open a .docx in 2003 Word, it will prompt you if you wish to install the add-on.

 

I am both a 2007 and 2003 user and I would recommend 2003 for its interface. 2007 is to graphic for my liking.

 

OpenOffice is free and I been using it for years without problem and it's been mainly compatible with MS Office. Why pay for what's free?

 

That is a noob statement. I have Office 2007 ultimate and it can revert back to the old style if you want. what product of microsoft hasn't had that ability?

2007 has much more features than 2003 to keep the edge on your products from presentations to just typing a word document. And it sure as HELL has more features than openoffice.org which is great for being free but sucks at offering flexibility. There will be a new openoffice out soon if it already isn't out but 2007 beats all hands down.

I love how people bash a company that makes billions and has the research and development to keep the 90% of the market yet they have no real reason to put it down.

Microsoft Office 2007 is the best. I suggest you Microsoft office 2007. It has more features than 2003.
It is graphically improved. It is more user friendly.

You will be confused for 1 day or 2, once you start using it and get practiced , it will be a good software.

 

Just don't try to do any extensive graphing or your coffee supply had better be good.

 

I think it is better to use Microsoft office 2003 than microsoft office2007. it is more userfriendly. i am also using msoffice 2003.

If you are asking about the microsoft office file's password, then yes its possible to crack those file and get passwords broken. best software around the market for this is passware utilities.

 

Try OpenOffice as been suggested. It's great free alternative to MS stuff.
It even has more useful features - like export documents to PDF, MS Office doesnt do that.

It's the best s/w MS has ever launched.
You can stay compatible with older office files by saving documents as office 97-2003 format (it's easy, check 'save as' option )

'Save as PDF' option is available in 2007 too. you need to install the add on. it's free.

2. Yes, if you have office 2003, you can open dotx files by downloading a file that it tells you to when you try to open the file in document.

2003 is good, but 2007 offers a new interface that's very user friendly IMO. I use both and I'm satisfied with both. They're both good for getting the task done.

 

Its not backwards compatabile, its a problem I had at college. I had 2007 and they have 2003 and I couldn't edit files when I sent them back home.
