I was wondering how can i save bandwidth with proxy sites?

Last month I was using around 18mbits of bandwidth constantly!

So please let me know tips on how i can save bandwidth. This high bandwidth usage is also making my ping go super high.

    Thanks!

Maybe if you cant reduce your BW and its a cost issue than why not switch to one of the unlimited host plans with a big reputable hosting company like midphase or justhosts..

These hosts offer unlimited because they oversell but know not every customer uses allocation

nah not looking to switch companys, just need to lower my bandwidth consumption.

First i thought that allowing everyone to do w/e with my proxy sites would increase the income, but it dident really increase it at all.

    Thanks, plesae let me know.

Block unwanted countries like china. Set file size download limit to 5mb. That will stop torrent or huge video downloads. Block hotlinking cause that will only use your bandwidth.

aite thanks alot for the inof! I am first going to try to just only block hotlinking and allow evertyhing telse. If that does not work then i will do the rest.

Btw i have a question about hotlinking, what exactually will this do if i block it? will it decrese traffic? what stuff will it block?

    thanks!

Blocking China, Iran and some other middle eastern countries helps alot (as they are the people who have large download sizes anyway).

Block some unessary feature such as file download and youtube streaming.
You can use a unmetered BW plan to cope with this

Say a guy goes to myspace through your proxy, Now all that he sees is cashed in your server. He takes a picture from a myspace page and puts that picture in another forum or blog. He is not downloading it. he just references it from your proxy server. Now in the forum the picture is displayed but people are not actually coming to your site but your bandwidth is being used for free. So you are not getting actual visitors and no ads are being displayed. This is called hotlinking or crosslinking. Hope I could clear the idea to you!

(http://www.blockacountry.com/)that generates the ranges of IP addresses for the selected countries. It is very useful for those who want to block specific countries using .htaccess.

    Hotlinking, IDK
