I'd say they're about equal in terms of SEO. Depends on the goals of your site. I've found both platforms work equally well in terms of SEO. For blogs, go for Wordpress. For Content management, go for Joomla. Both can do what the other is known for but Wordpress does blogs better and Joomla does content management better out of the box.

Well I have started changing my 250 site to Wordpress. Play around with it, it is the best by far and great for optimzation. Have a look at my Royal Caribbean site, it can look OK as well.

There are also great plug ins available for wordpress to help with seo, not sure if joomla has the same support.

I'd say WordPress is a lot easier to use then Joomla, for me as a person who needs to get sites up and running as fast as possible is what I am looking for.

I always get fed up with setting up Joomla sites for some reason, so many bits that can go wrong where as we WordPress it's pretty much straight forward stuff.

If you get the plugin installer for WordPress then you pretty much don't have to upload anything any more to your host when it comes to plugins and themes etc.

Anyway I have a #1 spot on a keyword which has over 30+ million sites competing for it, took me around 6 months to get it but it got their none the less.

For me WordPress is such a powerful tool which I believe all IM'ers should be using.

Though if you want a more complicated web site which is more user based e.g. more user features then Joomla probably has more features then WordPress.

Baed only on personal experience, - I recently started 2 new sites, in a similar niche, though having different content of course, one joomla, one wordpress, and the wordpress one is doing better in serps. I say that despite much preferring joomla for it's flexibility

Ive never used Joomla to run a big site, only a small one many months ago (SEO was never an issue). So I can't vouch for it in terms of SEO.

However Wordpress is definatly one of the best CMS I have ever used and in terms of SEO it is the best. The developers of Wordpress realise that the people who use it find SEO important. Where as other CMS groups like PhpBB don't seem to cater for our needs in SEO.

    Dear tinimini

its not about good and bad for SEO,

those two templates are both great for SEO if and only if you know SEO and you do everything correctly i.e. they can provide help for SEO but the essence is that you must know what are you doing, you will not benefit much if you just use them because they are good for SEO.

It depends what you want. If you want blog - go for wordpress, if you want cms - go for joomla. Although, I think its easier to set up a seo for wordpress, there are many factors that affect seo, and most of joomla templates comes with no so clean h1 tag, often you can see two h1 tags, and some components come without meta description tag. Of course, joomla is much more wider spectrum, you can do a lot, lot with it, but if you want the best, you have some things to do yourself. ;)
If you need blog, no questions for me, use wordpress. :)

if you want a nice looking blog - use WP
if you want a nice looking website - use joomla
if you just need a blog - use blogger

either way if you plan to boost some serious traffic to your site/blog/whatever, forget about WP unless you're willing to pay more than 200$ for dedicated server to host it.

for sheer seo-power ^^ wordpress all the way.

the sbs sniper package we just launched is WP based because set up and configured correctly you'd be very hard pressed to outrank a WP website, that was built specifically to rank well.

If you have a website with members who join and reply then Joomla.

Else if its just you posting on your site then wordpress.

Either way joomla works best on both, you just need to have the right tools for joomla, my site is #1 in google in its own niche :) and its on joomla
