I don't think anything will get close for a while. Once something has such a hold on the market, it takes something truly revolutionary to trump it. Google will be in our lives for quite some time ahead!
I don't see google getting serious competition anytime soon because they have such a strong hold on the market and so many people know about it

Only have to go as far as Japan to see Google loosing the battle, Yahoo is more popular in Japan than Google .... if you think that Japan has little influence .... think again .... Japan has a 10% total of all internet activity.
World has to upside down to beat google at this moment. Why not you start something new to beat the G boss. Its only the IDEA that can beat google, like facebook or YouTube but never sell yourself to google of Microsoft. YouTube did and its development in my opinion stopped or I should say became dull. But don't be like yahoo, making little progress is also damaging for long time growth. May be Microsoft can do something about it. they got money and muscle to alter google's prog.
Google is the best . It will difficult for anyother to beat google. But you can't tell about future. ANYWAY you can see www.vabuk.com which is also provide searching. Some people may like it

It is a time where if you see dictionery for the meaning of 'internet' you will see the word 'google' heyy come on i am just kidding. but nothing can't beat Google. if it is present or future
FOR ME,,,,,,,,,,,,,its not ideas,,,,,,,, Its the SIMPLE STRATEGIES that Google used and tats the reason its roots are fixed very well,,,,,,,
Mahola nowhere near... IMO, its probably going to take at least another 5-10 years before somebody even come close to Google. Cuil was just a complete disaster... and I dont think searchme is going anywhere (just a rip off of itunes)
