Forgive me for asking but how did DP get so popular

Its like the #1 webmaster forum on the net, but I don't understand how it got so popular , 95% go to forums.digitalpoint.com and 5% go to digitalpoint.com

So how did the forums get so popular? I see the actual root site is for sales of billing software for ISPs?

Dont get me wrong though I love this place, its my favorite website and has taught me alot in investing and in website development as well as SEO and marketing.

Just wondering

 

Im guessing because in its infant days the owners put alot of effort into promoting it, ontop of that good moderators plus great posting contributions from the public and a sprinkle of lady luck...

DP gets so popular because of the BUy and Sell section. This is one of the busiest section/category i nthis forum and making the forum more populated.

 

It's because the Owner of this forum took right step in right time considering the people's need.

 

Well.. DP is one of the oldest forums and its niche was almost unique at the time of its launch.
So, the creativeness of its creator is the hidden secret of this forum's success

 

They provided great SEO tools such as pagerank checker, keyword research etc, over at digitalpoint.com

Then people slowly discovered that there was a forum. It's all about providing free product or tools of great value.

it can not be one thing bro... a lot of effort from admin and mod side by giving visitors what they want... and a lot of effort from each user's side to use the forum in the best possible way. When started it was one of a kind and definitely got the first mover advantage, and as pointed above it bought buyer and sellers at one place...
Ofcourse this is beside the normal seo and submissions link building that would have been done for making it search engine friendly...

 

because shawn (the owner) setup the forums before there was a lot of competition. It was the perfect timing, and he worked hard advertising it. It also helped with the idea of the Buy Sell Trade section.

 

Exactly. At that time, there were very few webmaster forums like this one, also it had some tools and softwares which were needed my most of the webmasters. So, it become most visited, and then slowly, GC came up and ultimately, DP was flooded with members

Due to old standing and its grip on Internet Marketing is the key with all that blah blah ...mods..management etc

 

Good Promotion, Free Place, Free Community, BST Section, Free Tools, Good Mods (Not Gay Ones), etc..

All in one, i could say that its the fantastic team effort made this forum much popular.

 

I bet that it's not just one thing that made dp so popular. There were multiple things and the admins hard work brought dp to what it is today. There were tools for webmasters, a webmaster forum, revenue sharing feature since a long time back which was quite unique. I bet that other webmasters started revenue sharing after seeing that feature work in dp. And that's how dp got famous.

 

Because, in the early days, Shawn posted to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum asking for posters to do lots of posts to get the forum started, at $0.10 a time?

Do I really need to put <vbg> after this? Probably...

 

I think due to owner right steps and BST forum in dp is so popular.
