    Thanks everybody for your comments.

Yes, the list is important. However, the MONEY is not in THE list. Maybe the way I said it in the article made it sound like the list is useless.

Depends on your niche, product etc. You've got to compare it with other competitor's product conversion, and see if yours is acceptable.

For a sales letter, anything over 5% is pretty decent.

Ther are only 3 ways to grow a business's revenues. (Basic business school stuff)

    1) More new customers
    2) Higher purchase price per customer
    3) More frequent purchases per customer

So, there is money in the LIST.(enables #3) however, the key to #1 and #2 is TRAFFIC and PRODUCT.

So get a good product(priced well & good margin) drive traffic to it and build a list of customers AND/OR prospects you can monetize further down the road.

I agree with this, I was a guilty believer of "the money is in the list" awhile back.

It could be as well that the list builds the traffic.

Great post I think you mean to say not all the money is in the list. Building a list is one of the best ways to reach a targeted group of people that are much more oriented towards buying from you.

With a massive list you can test all your traffic with one extremely easy source like viral url

but it does all boil down to traffic

    A LOT.

I've been working on my upcoming book for the past 15 months. Check my blog in my signature for more details. Basically, I've been able to interview people like Shoemoney, Mark Joyner, Rob Cowie (producer of Blair Witch Project). Getting ready to release the book this November... projecting a mid-6 figure launch :)

    Good discussion.

The list management software is definitely a great way to automate and stay in touch with many more people

for business relationships than would be facilitated time efficiently manually.

Once these relationships have been cultivated through transactions or content sharing and the subscribers

are comfortable with your recommendations because you have earned their trust by providing good, solid

and useful info, resources and other beneficial messages, you are now able to send broadcasts to your lists

that are capable of bringing thousands of your subscribers to any site you ask them to visit

    at the same time.

When you click "broadcast" and then mere minutes later see dozens of people at a site and thousands over a 24 hour period--> long enough for everyone in their different time zones to receive and read

    your email,

you see some serious traffic from repeat visitors because you built trust with them when building your list.

    They work hand in hand.

Since business is based on trust, listbuilding is an effective way to do that.

Since visitors to an offer is usually the way you'll make sales whether it be visitors to adsense or

an offer they purchase from your salespage where your salesletter taking orders for your products and/or services is,

    traffic is also necessary.

Combining the two systems together perfectly is what you want to do for maximum profits in minimum time expended.

The more efficient experience for your client is the more satisfied client so automation can actually even

make it just as personal as you want to be for business anyway.

Thankfully there are many people who have successfully mastered these systems so that one desiring to

learn and implement this for their own business can do so with research.

Great discussion Stanley and look forward to the release of Emillions!

Stanley, please share with us a little how to get more traffic? I think that's where most people feel something is missing.

We don't expect you to spill the best secrets from your book but please, tell us something new that we don't already know from DP?

    thanks

To be honest, there isn't much "secrets". Pretty much everything you need to know about internet marketing is available on DP... it's just how you use that and take ACTION on it.

My book isn't really about "secrets" but more on the STORIES of internet marketers. So really, its about finding somebody whos already achieved the success you want to achieve, and model after them.

Just another tip, if you really really want to make it online and generate a bucketload of traffic, then you've got to give. It's all about providing VALUE. Give your best stuff away for free. Focus on providing CONTENT or SERVICE rather than making money. The monetization comes second once you've built a large following. Just look at twitter, all they do is focus on building a QUALITY SERVICE. They don't yet have ads or anything like that. All they are doing is GIVE. They know they have venture capitalists behind their back so they're not so worried about the money aspect. My prediction is that twitter is going to become this huge thing in the future.

Same thing with google when they first started out, all they focused on was creating a QUALITY search engine and creating a great user experience. It wasn't until 2001, 2002 when they actually began putting ads on.

I know this wasn't something you were looking for, but I really do want to emphasize the point of providing value first. Give, give, give and you will receive, receive receive.
