Hi everyone Does pdf , doc , exe files form my site count as backlinks when posted as hyperlinks on other sites? And if they do, are they as good as html or php backlinks or are they considered as second degree or maybe third or forth? IF there are degrees for backlinks in the first palce! And shuold they have anchor text when posted on other sites to count as good backlinks. And is it worth it to focus on such files in building backlinks for my site? (P.s My site is mainly an e-book library) Thanks in advance
Yes, i think it's counted as backlinks. I did submitting screensaver to many software directory and i got many backlinks from them. It was .exe file extensions. Anchor text matters too. I don't have any idea about backlinks degree. Maybe someone else has the answers.
It's not possible google or any searchengine cannot read pdf files and most of the times I found that these doc and pdf files are in frames. Even these are with specific urls then also it needs to be load which takes too much of times so can't assume that it will be counted as backlinks
I got confused! Is it a must that google should read the whole file in order to consider it as a backlink?! I thought it was enough that google sees it as a valid link form my site! ??!!!
If you are talking about having a link on someone else's site that links to a PDF on your site, then yes. This would count as a backlink towards that pdf. Not too sure how it would affect the rest of your site though. If you are talking about backlinks IN the PDF then no, I don't think they are counted.
Yes. But you must have make a regular PDF not a graphic PDF. If you do it this way Google will also read the content in the PDF then you can do some cool SEO stuff as well.. Check this link in Google and check out how Google indexed the PDF as well as counting it as a back link. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...official&hs=61G&q=pdf+as+backlink&btnG=Search It's the fourth one down that says "Backlinks Tutorial.pdf" A PDF with content and links is going to be treated just link other .html pages. This would still be a nice experiment to do some tests with though. If you type in pagerank uncovered in Google Guess what, a PDF is the very first result. Also this link http://www.highrankings.com/advisor.htm is in the PDF and if you Google that link you will also find the PDF file with that link in the results
Thank you all for sharing your views So I conclude from your comments that: I will not benefit from files as backlinks unless they can be read and indexed by Google, and that means: - "Text PDF" files are good. - "Image PDF" files are worthless. - Doc, txt files are good. - Exe files are worthless. - Rar & zip files are worthless. ?!! Are you guys 100% sure of that? I need to be sure cos my website depends mostly - in terms of backlinking - on direct links to files on my server that people post in forums and blogs. Those files are mostly "Image PDF" files, rar, zip, ppt and exe files. And most of the backlinks I see in my "awstats" statistics are of that kind. I always thought that Google sees a hyperlink as a hyperlink... just as simple as that, and that indexing is not a condition, taking in mind that my Google analytics always show in the reffering sites section those many sites that only link to my files .. pdf rar zip exe .. etc. So if Google analytics recognizes them, why then shouldn't it consider them as backlinks?! Any other comments on this issue??
