Good tips, but I would of probably shortened the first post to just:

- Start one thing, finish that one thing before you move on to the next!

- Get active in this forum' ask question and help people who you can help,
you will be shocked how fast it comes back to you!

- Dont get caught up in the never ending super fine tuning of a site that keeps you from launching.

- Set a date you want to launch by, and keep it!

- See youself as an employee of your business and that you have certain daily responibilities.

- Keep one site at least that you keep building on and keep tweaking for long term. So in a few years you will have a hefty size site with great traffic.

 

yes for some it can be simplified .. for others it helps to understand why I am saying this - some people need to know why not to do things

I will back this up. My BY FAR ugliest site, which uses mostly white and times new roman in unformatted paragraphs makes me the most money with adsense. You'd be surprised how often people visit the sponsors when the ads are the most attractive part of your design..

The trouble with ugly sites is people don't like to return. So your ugly site needs to have a function or provide dated information so that people will come back time and time again just for that, and tell their friends...despite it's uglyness.

 

Yeah I guess the ugly part is right .. you ever see how people stop to look at an accident ... ?

 

Some people do have luck but for others, nothing equals hard work and persistence for long term rewards and satisfaction in this web development business.

I consider myself lucky that I'm cash poor right now (can't buy the greatest new method that way).

I had left the relative honesty of several forums I was a member of looking for more information on Adsense as a source of income. Little did I know there is a whole cottage industry of folks selling their ezines, books, and programs that promise untold riches with their techniques. One was actually selling the secrets to their method for $1,000! They even had a forum full of happy 'customers' saying "Oh, yes, it works!"

A little further research saw the happy 'customers' had all become affiliates.

Unfortunately, whenever there is honest money to be made, there will be scam artists trying to dishonestly get some of it.

 

Yes, almost like those tv commercials that show you all the millionaires made but they never show the ones that lost big time!
