I have a four word keyword phrase with me. It gets 75k searches per month. When I search for competition on google with "quotes" around the phrase the top ten results are from PR1 sites/pages. Total results are 12k only But when i search for it without "quotes" authority sites like shopping.com and amazon.com crop up with PR of 3-4. Should I target this phrase? Thanks.
This is because when you use quotes it looks for that exact phrase on the website; unlike without quotes it may only find one or two of those words and still display it in the results. Ranking will occur on both queries, you don't need to add quotes to your anchor text. More Info: http://www.googleguide.com/quoted_phrases.html
75K searches every month and only 12K competing websites. You just might have found a really profitable niche. Is the 75K searches number a broad match number? If yes, check for exact matches. This will give you a better idea of the niche attractiveness. As far as competition goes, you should'nt have a problem in taking the top spot provided you do a good job of it. cheers,
Whoa..when I do the exact search it becomes only 36.. Thats shocking..What is the difference between broad match and exact match?
I kinda suspected that. When you have a 4 word key phrase, a broad match will bring a ton of searches. A broad match is when any one of those 4 words is used as a search term and in any order. So for example if you were targeting "cheap reseller hosting plan", a broad match will be triggered if someone searches for "cheap shoes" or "reseller company" or "hosting guide" or "diet plan" Disclaimer: The above is an example only, the broad match numbers that Google shows is not as unrelated as the example above. Its keyword matching algo ensures that the broad match terms are related. Your best indication is a exact match or a phrase match. An exact match is one someone types in your key phrase exactly as you have it, i. e "cheap reseller hosting plan" and a phrase match is when your key phrase is part of a broader phrase such as "really really cheap reseller hosting plan" I hope the above makes sense. 36 searches is not really worth it unless you have a really well paying niche and more importantly you have a buying key phrase there. Good luck
