So, how did Google penalize your site?

"With all of the messages on this board about PR0 and other Google penalties, I thought it might be useful to create a thread where those who have been penalized by Google in the past explain exactly how they were punished and what they were doing on their site(s) that may have caused it. This way, whenever someone asks about what causes a penalty and what to avoid, we can simply point them in this direction. It would also be useful to see which tactics tend to be penalized most frequently..." jaytierney

    Ok, the truth everyone.

    1. How did Google penalize your site?
    2. What were you doing to get the penality?
    3. What did you do to fix it?
    4. Did it work?
    5. And how long did it take?

    Thanks to Ssandecki

I've had my site hacked before, and the hacker posted links to ch*ld porn, beastal*ty and warez sites. The site dropped totally off rankings within a day, and I searched and found the source of the problem.

I removed the links, waited, and within 48 hours my site was restored. Google is forgiving, and google knows what hackers do.

We were selling printer parts. So we created ~ 20 web sites. And yes, we crossed linked them all. For ~ 6 months sales were great until someone ratted us out. Within 1 week, everything was removed.

If you look today, the "scraper" have very nice "orginal" content. We have 19 PR0 sites and 1 PR1 site.

The cross linking debate has been going on for a while, there are those who swear it gets penalized, and those who swear it is not. You can risk it or play it safe, it is up to you.
