Can the DP Sigs cause a Google Penalty

If I change one of my DP Sigs from 1 website to another, will Google consider this rapid linking and apply a penalty to the new site?

I think google knows if the links are coming from a signiture so I don't think they will penalize you

With 943 posts it might not count most of them, since they all come at once. you wont get a negative penalty, or we could just do this to each other, but all the post you made (or at least most) before making the change aren’t likely to count. Google likes to see a slow and steady build up of inbound links

No I don't think they will penalize you. They might not give those links the same weight as if you built those links gradually. Google won't penalize you for things that a competitor could do to you (off page factors).

Does Google split the links between the "old site" and the "new site"?

    That is a complete fallacy.
Google is only interested in serving up the most relevant results to searchers.
If something has happened to your site to make it seem less relevant, they really don't care how it happened.

No, i don't think so either.
Otherwise competitor's could just change their DP sig [If any] to your website and give you a Google penalty.

A guy with thousands of posts on DP could blackmail various websites threatening to give them Google penalty.

The reason I asked this is I have a site that was in #9 position in the SERPs, I changed one of my Sigs to point at the site and within 2 days, I'm at #40 in the same SERPs. (I.E. Penalty-30 ???)

No other changes were made. And this wasn't a drop of 9 to 14 to 22 to 30... Just to 40.

As a newbie this is a topic that interests me alot. I always wondered if Google would lower rankings for such situations.

Why would they penalize a legitimate practice? Discount it? Perhaps. But sig links are valid ways of drawing attention to your website. I can't see what there is about them that would trigger a penalty.

Did removing the link revert the penalty? If not, you may be talking algo change ;)

No I definitely don't think so. They know that the number of links buildup are coming from signatures and won't penalize because it's not blackhat or anything.

That by itself doesn't tell anything. I have had sites ranked in the top 10 results drop out of sight altogether without doing/changing anything. The following questions [And maybe some others] need to be answered.

    1] Is the site new?
    2]
    3]
4] How long was the site at it's position?

Thank you for being the only one in this thread who is making sense.

This is akin to changing a site-wide link on a single site. Do you think that's going to trigger a PENALTY?

The new site was at #9 for 2 months. Site is 17 months old. 100% white hat. Only the DP sig was changed.
