The second commercial is actually hilarious. I was surprised how well Bill Gates acts. A link to the commercial is below. What does everyone think about this one? http://www.bloggingcentral.com/204402-Second-GatesSeinfeld-Ad-Shows-Theyre-Very-Rich-Unlike-Us-Microsoft-Ad--204402.php
Yeah its pretty funny. I have to notice though that although they have a close age Gates looks a lot older...
Wow, I never realized that Jerry was older than Bill Gates. Also, I thought it was a little odd that they decided to air the commercial during Big Brother. I guess it was either that or Kitchen Nightmares.
It's a campaign to improve Bill's image. Think about it. Everyone makes Microsoft out to be Evil - especially the ground gaining Apple corp. The commercial's aren't supposed to be about anything, it's supposed to generate buzz (like it's doing) and make Bill a likeable guy. It's working too IMO.
funny, I always pictured Jerry as more of an Apple guy This one was better than the 1st...I winder how they break it up for regular TV though 4.5mins is pretty long!
These ads are actually quite brilliant. Think about the Mac ads; the "mac" guy is all smug and superior while the "pc" guy is kind of silly and bumbling. I've heard them compared to the Coyote and the Roadrunner but that's a long story. Anyway, these commercials take that geeky, awkward "pc" guy (Gates), and humanizes him. It illustrates that he's just a normal guy. The message is "Mac's are for pretentious people - Microsoft is for everyone." Aside from that, these ads are just so weird they're viral - people have been voting them up on Digg and there are lots of copies of the vids on YouTube. The intent of this advertising is brand awareness, not selling a product.
The first ad made virtually no sense at all, at least not in the perspective of marketing Windows to people. There was no mention of the products or how they impacted peoples lives. The second ad isn't a whole lot better, except they do discuss trying to get in touch with regular people and try to humanize the whole situation a bit more. But still, no real push on the products and I am guessing the only ones being impacted by this are people who already know the differences between Mac and Windows.
"The fact that a design uses inheritance and polymorphism doesn't make it a good design..." -Gates reading to kid No, but it's a start!!!!
