    Hey everyone!

I have been working with SEO companies and even doing a bit myself for a few years now and want to share some of my knowledge with others. I have some advice for your title tags. Please respond with any comments of things I may have left out.

Title Tags for best SEO Results

SEO title tags are very important to any website. If done right, you can get a very high rankings with search engines and drive a lot of natural traffic to your site. I will give you some tips on title tags to get you the best results with search engines.

    What are title tags?

A title tag is a piece of HTML code that describers the content of your website. The title tag tells search engines and web surfers what your website is about. It will also appear on search engines results pages (SERPs).

    Tips for your Title Tags

    1.Keep Your Title Tags Unique.

No two pages, in your site, should have the same title tag. The title tag should reflect the content on your page.

    2. Use Keywords That Are Related To The Content In Your Title Tags

I have always added keywords in my title tags that reflect the content on my page. I always use the most important keywords and leave out less important keywords. I would never reuse keywords within the same title tag.

    3. Keep Your Title Tags Short.

I usually have a rule to keep my title tags between 60-65 characters. Within those 60-65 characters, I would include keywords for the content on the page and website name or company name. By keeping the title tags short, you also avoid putting too many keywords in your title tags.

    4. Spell Check Your Title Tags

One of the worst things I’ve seen is title tags that have misspelled words. Spell check your title tags!

    5. Never Leave Your Title Tags Blank.

Title tags are very important to search engines and rankings. You are only hurting yourself by leaving them blank.

    6. See What Other People Are Doing.

I will always search Google for similar articles or tutorials. I will then see what top ranking pages have done with their title tags. Do not copy their title tags, but you can come away with a few ideas that may help you write your title tags.

Last thought…..don’t be afraid to experiment with title tags and see what works best for your site and search engines. Writing good title tags takes time and will only help your site.

Why waste precious ranking power by adding your website, company name in your title?

This dilutes the effect that the rest of the words have, plus you shouldn't need to rank for them as you more than likley for your websites name and company.

I disagree. I almost ALWAYS put my company name into my Title Attribute.

From a usability standpoint, this helps users know exactly where they are, or where they are going without extra added effort. From a branding standpoint, it helps my name stick more.

I think people put to much emphasis on "ranking" and forget that we also have to develop for the viewers sometimes. So long as your Title accurately describes your page, shouldn't the Search Engines be able to do their jobs just fine in the long run?

If I am working on an ecommerce website where return traffic is important, I always put the company name in the title of the homepage. It makes it easier for users who have more than one browser open. It also helps customers remember the company name. For internal pages I never include the company name.

Title should contain only the targeted keywords of your website anything else will not be helpful as far as SEO is concerned.

well ideally you just want to keep the keywords in the title but may be if you are looking for branding, than its not a bad idea to put your sitename too. Ideally hack your CMS (like I have done on my site http://nbridges.com) and you can see some pages which I want to rank don't have my site name but some pages have my site name.

Guys, I think it depend on what kind of website you are currently maintain, for corporate website better to always put the company name in the title tag and for personal blog and traffic oriented you may maximize your keyword in the title tag. I maintain a static website and the title tag is the company name, the traffic was fine also the page rank.

Does anyone use dashes in title tags when referencing the site name and subject of the page (for eg, title: digitalpoint.com - domains for sale)

Yes take the time to develop your title tags carefully, making sure you have a good keyword foundation from which to draw and that every page has its own unique title reflecting the subject and keyword terms being optimized for.

You forgot a very important point. You always need to keep this in mind that these are gonna appear in SERPS and need to communicate in an effective manner with the surfers. Tags should not be too mechanical. But overall the tips are good. Keep up the good work. Also check Title tags in SEO if you like.
