I think it will beat FF. It is possible it will takes 51% of shares. Everything is possible , especially for google.
I downloaded Chrome a few days ago and I like it well enough, but there are some bugs that need to be fixed. Like it starts fast and surfs fast for awhile, but over a 30 or 45 minute period of time it does slow down to a crawl if you don't close it and restart. Also there are some font problems with Chrome where when writing online posts it tries to change the font without the user knowing it. These things are minor and I'm sure they will be fixed soon. In a nutshell I think three companies competing for the browser market is better than two. Sorry 'off brand' users, but right now it's a IE, Firefox and Chrome browser world.
Chrome is great for beta except few things (for example it is not obvious how to set up a home page) . On the other hand as a developer I tested it with some heavy JavaScript games that I made in the past and I saw that Chrome V8 speed is really great but … not expected. For example if you fly around some objects (images) using JavaScript and DOM you will calculate the time deferent in firefox and explorer and differently in Chrome, so I am not so sure yet if I am happy with this great new V8…
I liked your question that is why I created an article explaining why google felt the need to enter web browser market and released Google Chrome. http://www.knowledgebase-script.com/demo/article-639.html Please share your thoughts as well...!
Beating Internet explorer is more difficult than said. Chrome till need improvement. It lacks in several aspects, so chrome needs much time....
Sure Chrome needs time, but a lot of the missing features will be added quickly due to the browser being open-source. Much of the predictions are based on potential, not the current state. Google has HUGE leveraging power with its search results and marketing so it really shouldn't be a problem to at least be on par with Firefox in a couple of years.
Google may do something to make sure that a webmaster who uses Chrome to update his site will have better ranking. If that happens thay don't have to wait till 2010 for becoming the #1.;-)
It wont if they don't make some serious updates too it, it has a lot of insecurities due to using the Apple API (the same engine used on Safari).
I don't think Google can get huge market share (51%) by 2010. It has to cross a long road. Even today IE is the best browser ... If I'm not wrong only FireFox share will get down.
It's worth bearing in mind that Chrome is (apparently) open source. So if they can attract developers away from FF (which Google still claims to be supporting) then they can very quickly build up an audience. Overcoming IE is more difficult but by marketing Chrome as a simple, reliable and fast browser then they're going about it the right way. Gregor
Can somebody tell me if this new browser fully supports java? I heard that it has some problems with java.
Well they've started to update the browser. So far it's just fixes tho, no new functionality, but the update process is pretty simple: http://www.searchsiren.com/?p=103
IE8 is 10 years behind web standards and can't even implement many technologies such as XHTML (served as xhtml), SVG, a proper DOM, proper javascript, while other browsers have started implementing a lot of CSS3, IE8 just barely finished CSS2.1 (and even then they didn't get it quite right). IE8 will replace IE7 as the worst browser on the planet.
Chrome works with Java but you must install Java version 6 which, itself, is in beta, too. However, since Chrome is only version 0.2, this will all come together quickly.
Google has the power to make Chrome world's leading browser but as long as people install Windows on every machine and it comes with IE some are just too lazy to install something else. They think why bother if all browsers are basically the same. ( I just quoted my parents . )
