The best way to promote a dating website?

I know that the dating niche as a whole is quite saturated, but at the same time the market is huge, if you can capture even a small percentage of the audience you can generate significant income. I am looking for feedback from webmasters who currently or have owned websites to give their opinion on the best way to acquire new members. PPC, SEO, Viral Videos, Social Bookmarking, Link Exchanges, Directory Submission. What has been the most effetive methods based on your experiences?

Is your website a local site? If so, start doing offline advertising locally. This can be done via flyers, posters, billboards, word of mouth, all sorts of cheap things.

For instance, I live in a largely gay area in Chicago. I could build a very successful gay dating site for this part of town via simple offline advertising.

 

Dating is saturated because it makes a lot of money. I would try PPC advertising - read about Quality Score and try specific niches with well branded pages. Good luck!

 

you can try do some advertising on Facebook. Their advertsiing is not so competitive as google.
And Facebook is for social netowrking, dating niche is naturally a catch :0)

If you are local promote it in the papers, on the local radio station, local magazines, with flyers, or business cards in bars, restaurants.... Don't try compete with the big boys on google adsense or similar channels...

 

If ppc is saturated then try creating a profile on facebook and myspace.

You can always take your shot at trying to make a hit viral video. If you can find away to make a funny video dealing with dating and post it to the major video sites like YouTube you can get some great traffic that way.
