I know this has been discussed alot before. People says that you should only have 1 dash in your domain url. Everyone says that having more than 1 dash in your url, your domain name will be considered spam.

I agree with gr8liverpoolfan - dashes are OK, as long you are OK with them :)

DANGER! You are reading an article on SEO from 3 years ago! The search engines have long been able to parse out words in a domain no matter if there were dashes in it at all.

Go for a domain without dashes. If your site is successful, your type in traffic increases (people won't remember the dashes) so if your competitor owns the non-dashed version, you just did him/her a favor.

I used to have a domain with three dashes, that I binned as it looked a mouthful. It still ranks in the top 10 for a $4.00 click. Somone must have bought it through sedo

It won't hurt the serps, I promise you, and it still has major advantages for yahoo. But it looks shit.
    Proof.
A domain I dropped for that very reason is still ranking well for the dud who bought it from SEDO

I have always said dashes and underscores do not make SEO better or worse.
Im no SEO expert however i have had .info's and .nets on the first page of google with and without dashes.

Dont worry about it. I have a strong theory on what is good in search engines but i have only just started to test the theory so i will post my results if positive in the coming weeks/months.

One should use maximum two hyphens in an URL, to get good seo advantages, more dashes URL won't look professional, and earlier member said it won;t be a brand...

I think if a site has too many dashes, it's not user-friendly.

"For every dash in a domain, the quality rating of a site drops by that factor." - Paul Gardi

    1. Your site's name looks like ass / you won't be getting many returning visitors.
    2. From what I've gathered, G seems to assume that multiple (>2) dashes is some sort of domain keyword stuffing, and is penalized as such.
