Hey everybody. It seems to me that there are two camps in terms of creating a stable and growing adsense income stream. The first group preaches that one publisher should not have more than one or two sites, that he or she grows by dedicating their full commitment to in terms of writing original content and marketing in targeted blogs. That way the publisher is focused on their particular niche, and have much more time to bring something of value to the table. The risk is that if the one-two sites are not very successful you won't make it in the internet world. But if you are truly successful as are many internet publishers like JohnChow for example, you will be making thousands of dollars from one site. Then there's the second group, that believes that if you want to make $100/day with adsense then the best way to proceed is by creating 100 sites making $1/day or 10 sites making $10/day. That way you are diversified and if one of the websites fails, you have 9 or 99 more still earning a decent amount. What type of publisher are you? Do you think that adsense success can be accomplished from just a couple of sites earning a sizeable amount of money or through a lot of sites, earning overall a decent amount in total?
I have tons of sites, but my big earners are the ones that I enjoy working on and built because they werew something I enjoyed... If you can handle tons of sites I say go for it....
I think this says it all. I totally agree and i got the exact same results. My top earners are the ones i put some real work into and used my imagination to make them unique. the rest? i dumped them after years of crappy income... .
One site making 5 bucks a day or 3 sites making 15 bucks a day.. The more you own the more money you can make. Obviously dont disregard quality of the site. Make 1-5 nice rich content sites.
I'd say start small, 1-2 first off, work on them and get them earning a decent amount per day and then add to what you have already. Its harder to start making money when you have loads of sites to work on.
Starting too many sites too quickly can get you all worked up and frustrated. I'd recommend starting anywhere from 2-5 sites, put up unique content that provides value to your readers and spend a majority of your time on link-building and bringing targeted, organic traffic to your sites. Once you've got these sites on auto-pilot, then I'd say to go after new niches. Hope that helps!
Kinda reiterating what others have said... but yes 1-2 sites at first, only because these are sites that you should be doing yourself (to learn first-hand about AdSense). Once you have that going, build more sites. however these should not be done yourself (there's always exceptions), but generally these are sites that are more or less automated and outsourced.
I have over 20 sites, but the main money makers are the 3 sites i work on most. I suggest you try out a variety of subject matter and see what drives you deeper.
i have about 15 sites in production but only 3 have Adsense and are earning me money. i like being diversified and floating my sites out there like a fishing hook. and whatever the public grabs at, i place emphasis on the sites that get the most traffic.
I've been working on one site for most of my webmaster career. It's not a big earner, and it requires constant input from me. I like it though so I'm keeping it, in a few years it'll get more traffic. I recently started another site, this one is a blog. I did the blog on a topic that interests me so I know I'll keep it up to date. I also wanted to try out the whole blogging thing since I've never done that before. I don't have much extra time each day to work on them so I can't really concentrate on more than 2 sites. I've got ideas for other sites that I could just make and then leave and wouldn't require constant input. Those are what I'm planning on working on next. Just need some more free time to get to them.
Website building is very addictive start of with two and a blog then if you think you can handle it build another and another but be carefule you can get burnt out very easy.
IMHO, ONE quality site will do better in the long run than 20 crappy/small sites.. That strategy has been working pretty darn good for me - $66,458.67 so far this year..
I think you can start with some sites (10 - 20 is what I did), but after a while you will end up with focusing on 3 to max 5 sites that you can handle with care and also making you the jackpot.
Well, I forgot to mention that I have 3 blogs plus one site. My main earner is my first blog, which generates 95% of earnings and 99% of my commitment. Oh yeah, and its not the site in my signature, but something I am truly experienced in and think about every waking hour ( investing). I just wanted to get an overall feel from everyone else here.
I have close to 50 sites that are only 6-9 months old. I floated a bunch out there in different niches to see which ones would become more successful. Now I'm in process of weeding out the ones that aren't making me much, but if I had only started w/ 1 or 2 sites I might have invested too much time in dead end niches.
I don't think that second model works anymore. Also have to stop building website for adsense. Funnily enough, I had wrote a post on same topic that why you should stop making website for adsense. The argument is, the returns are way too less. I mean you are just making money from adsense with way too many parameters involved causing lot of uncertainty. My suggestion - stick to one site.
If your a beginner, than start only 1 site. After 6 months, when you've learned about promoting and link building, than start another one. At least that's my opinion...
I'm more towards the group that advocate having one baby to take care and providing the most attention. The level of commitment is higher and basically we can work and put more effort to have 3-4 posts per day and concentrate everything on it.
