Best bang for the buck powerful directory?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by myshtern, Sep 5, 2008.

I've setup a website with A LOT of content for non-competitive keyword and would like to rank for it relatively soon. When MSN had a directory, I remember paying $50 for a listing and had phenomenal results due to it.

MSN doesn't seem to have a directory any longer and Yahoo charges $300 annually for their directory.

What's the most powerful directory, in your opinion, that offers the best bang for the buck as far as SEO goes?

dmoz.org is the best and powerful free directory, though it's very difficult to be indexed.

dmoz is the best but not visitor friendly, from the above mentioned I really like dirjournal.com and romow.com, these are made for visitors and searching, you can spend hours in those sites.

It's really hard to say which directory is the most powerful. You have to try some and know which one that will bring you more traffic. Whichever one you choose, just compose your site's description well to attract visitors.

The best place to start is Google Webmaster Guidelines: google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769&query=directories&topic=&type=

    There it recommends:

Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project (DMOZ)and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

Here is a list of good value / price directories. Use the search to narrow the list to your niche, PR, traffic, price range, etc. If you can find a directory that gets some traffic from the search engines in your niche it will boost your rankings in the SERPs.
