if you mean net profit per month, then it could be a good approximation. :)

Anywhere in the range of 6-12 months I see most sites sell for, maybe more if its something special.

i don't think that works for all sites... some sites may not have any revenue at all (it can't be worth 0 right?)

i guess value depends on the buyer.

Its subjective. Your site is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I find it funny that people only value site on revenue and only choose to focus on that as a factor in value.

You need to take in account alot of other factors and again this is depending on the type of site and your needs.

    Ask yourself these questions:

    1. How much would it cost someone to duplicate the site?
    2. How much competition is out there for your niche?
    3. Is there substanial value or branding potential with the domain name?
    4. is there any traffic, and if so what is the geographic breakdown of the visits.
    5. Research all the sale outlets and find comparable values.
    6. Does the site have any registered users.
    7. What is the age of the site. How long has it been around.
    8. Is it well indexed in the search engines...

    etc, etc...

My point to this is that there are several other factors in determining a sites value other then revenue.

    Mike :)

I mean a site that generates income, that you have to advertise for. A site that requires a few fresh pages per day of easily accssible content.

edit: thanks mike, good info to chew on. =)

    Here's my simplified version:

It's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it;)

If you have created a site and now you are planning on selling it you need to ask yourself some additional questions:

If you coded the site yourself how long did it take in total manhours to make it?
--Lets say it took you 100 hours to make and you know what your doing.
--multiply that 100 x $XX to see what it would cost to have coded.

If you did the art and graphics yourself how long did it take?
----multiply total hours x $XX to see what it would cost to have the art done.

If you paid someone to do it how much did it cost?

Did you have to purchase any special software or licenses to make or operate your site? (software, datafeeds, content, etc.)

And there are other questions you can ask to determine the retail value of your site. Once you have the retail value then ask yourself how motivated are you to sell? Do you need the money fast? Is there a script already available to make a site like yours? Are you selling full rights to your script?, etc, etc.
