How Important Are Your Meta Tags

    Hi

    Could you tell me please how important your meta tags are?. I have had a look at mine here http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html & it says mine are too long & so it the title. I have bin told that it doesnt matter any more & have also bin told that it does matter to google, yahoo etc. Can anyone shed any light on this & should i get them seen to.

    Meta tag would work for yahoo or msn.
    both are "old" search engine

    The title and description meta tags are still important in Google.
    The keywords meta tag is not important.

    You need to put your keywords on the page itself and ensure you mention your keywords also in the title and description meta tags.

    Meta tags are really important, yes, but so many will say they are not important, ..... just see the effect by removing meta tags, you are no where are in SERP

    It helps search engine bots to identify and learn about your site on which keywords is important. Just focus on few important ones because too many keyword stuffed in the section will degrade the importance of the rest.

    meta tags are important in yahoo,msn I don't think meta tags are important in Google.google is mainly rely on tittle,tittle description and domain name.

    I have just check my gallery cms. It doesn't have meta tags. Why can they make it that way.
    I have to add the meta tags meself . Is it good if the title and meta tags are the same ??

    Meta tags are mainly for Yahoo & MSN however the description is important as Google and all other search engine pick this up.

    If you have a DMOZ listing, the description sometimes comes from there (depending on the search) - If the person does a search for your website name it usually pulls the DMOZ description.

    meta tags were important for google. but now, its weight is somewhat minimal. google will simply rank your site at any position after analysing content and meta tags. you cannot fool google by using a meta tag keyword like "finance" if your site is completely about movies. but yahoo and msn and others may give some more weight on it. Also, in the past, such practices involved penalization by google. Not any more. I suggest u use correct meta description for your sites.

    META Tags still important for Google and all other major search engines, however Title tag is the most important one and don't try to stuff keywords, only use relevant keywords in the tags.

    META tags are very important, suprisingly, even though google technically doesnt read them. Thats another falacy. Don't add keywords that are not exactly in the body of your text.

    I believe the title and description meta tags are still important in all search engine including Google, Which Meta description can help search engine to understand more each pages of your site information and rank accordingly in search results.

    Meta tags are very important element for any search engine now a days so we should include meta tags to all the pages

    In the title tags you can include your targated keywords, in the description tag you can describe that page by using your keywords and in the keywords tags you can include all your keywords that will help you to rank better in the SERP.

    Meta tags keywords may show up in SERPs result. So, they are important for searchers at least, even if they don't affect ranking.
