Hi Group - We don't have time to manage our Forum/Website anymore and not sure what to ask for it. Any advice/feedback appreciated. www.gringos.com
Not a lot Im afraid. I saw an established gaming forum with over 10K members, plus a website which was established and got 40K uniques a month go at a well-publicised ebay auction for $2000. On that basis yours with only 1200 members is worth less I would say.
Thanks.... Anyone else care to comment? So we should ask for (at most) $2,000? Wow! 10 years of hard work, over $40,000 USD invested, (our time not included-we're real estate people by trade), 3 books (pdfs and hardbacks) and the stress dealing with spoiled punk Coders (80% are, sorry guys).... Guys, please-the next time we think about investing in online Forums.... please kill us. Just kill us.
The amount of money you put in has no relevance on the worth. Value is determined by the market (ie what someone's willing to pay.)
Ok, thanks.... Bottom Line: what should we ask for? And please kill me should I ever have thoughts of buying/starting another internet forum.
The site itself already says you're asking $30,000. Then you come on a forum like this and ask what you can sell it for. You are shooting yourself in the foot. You need to have this entire thread removed before potential buyers find it. Seriously ... any reasonably serious buyer is going to do research on gringos.com. If they are ANY good at all, they are going to find this thread. What are they going to see? The owner that is asking for $30K is on a public forum griping about how miserable the forum us ... how painful it's been ... how he would rather be killed than start another one ... and how the seller is actually saying, "So we should ask for (at most) $2,000?" Contact a reputable online business broker. Be prepared to show financials and verify your traffic count. And stop working against yourself.
The name of the site is a word used to describe white people, it's offensive to say the least. I don't think it's worth anything.
The fact of the matter is that you have MANY rooms with no activity in the last 2 weeks. You have nothing in the last couple of days. For your Central America room, you've had 8 threads in 2 years. Your Mexico room does a little bit better with 15 threads in 2 years. I am guessing that there are only a handful of active members. It looks like a dead or dying forum. Looking at the Alexa rank(which is good for nothing but a ballpark figure), it looks like you get little traffic. My guess the only value is in the domain. Maybe have a reserve auction on it?
Didn't read the post above me completely, but is that spam I see [now deleted] I think your forum casn fetch more than $2k. Spend a bit of time poured into it, get the posts and Alexa up by whatever means neccessary. Few weeks should do it. The domain alone should be worth a reasonable amount.
We're you on here a few weeks ago asking for help on marketing the site because it wasn't doing very well?
Since your forum has sections for countries like Cuba, etc. I think your going to have a hard time trying to get top dollar for it do to the fact that advertisers aren't going to target those markets (who in cuba has a computer, let alone money to ship a product to cuba?). So I would say $2000 is being generous unless you can show solid financials that indicate otherwise.
Tesseract, I think they are aiming more for people in the US, Canada, UK, etc that want to live in those countries.
