Links from lower PR sites

I have read that one should link to sites with same PR or higher sites, does getting a link from a lower pr site reduce your PR, increase it or has no effect?

    Thanks

Getting links from lower PR sites will mean your site will not improve in page ranking quickly, get higher PR backlinks and it will.

In most cases, it will have no effect. You lose PR when you create a link to another web site. To stop this "PR Bleed", you will use the "Nofollow" attribute in a link.

There are two components that you must think about in a link. "PR transfer" and "Anchor Text". You will find that the keyword in the Anchor Text component is more important.

A low ranking site will provide a boost to your page rank, however it will be much less valuable. Think of the page rank as a multiplier to how valuable the link is. e.g. PR 1 vs PR 4 (PR 4, four times as valuable) There are many other variables in how powerful the link may be i.e. anchor text, site theme, TLD But, that's a decent rule of thumb to follow.

All links TO your site increase your pagerank. All links FROM your site decrease it.

Links from lower PR pages will still help, even though the amount of that help may be very tiny indeed. But multiply that help by thousands of such links and you'll see that each low-PR link is a small but positive addition.

No in bound link can reduce your PR. The worst that can happen is that a link to your site is not counted.

Links from PR0 pages count but they do not worth as much as links from PR1 + pages.

Any back link is helpful but the back links from the lower pr sites will require more back links to increase your pr than back links from the higher ones

Focus on getting search engine rankings instead of dwelling on PR. Just keep getting links from a variety of sources. Then the PR will follow. Obsessing over PR is a waste of time unless you are selling ad space.

PR is a little greentoolbar there to keep us amused, a bit like a toy.
It is trust rank that gains serps, and there is no bar for that except age and common sense.
Some sights that have high PR also have good trustrank hence the misconception.

    Proove it?
    Sure
Have a look at who outranks you for your own best key word.
A lot of them will be in DMOZ, with the keyword in the domain name, which makes the lister link with the desired anchor
Oh, what a good DMOZ editor I would have made.....but alas.... I failed the audition as I couldn't do the Google dance

PR is not "a toy", as someone said above. But it's also not something to obsess over. It is one of many things that Google factors into their processes.

Concerning PR0 links, remember: PR is only a Google thing! The other search engines don't use it. For example, I had 11,500 visitors from Yahoo! last month, and they don't use PR, but they certainly do count links. So go get all the good links you can get, with or without PR.

As Jim stated, low PR links do have an effect in boosting SERP, not PR but how close to the front page of the search engine you are using, although not as large as high PR links. I have found through my own experience that lower PR sites that link to my site that are related to my niche have a stronger effect on SERP than higher PR unrelated backlinks.

Also, too much of only high PR sites may flag search engines which can have a negative effect on your SERP. It's best to have a mix of links (mostly related) with various PR's.

Also, don't turn down a link just because it is low PR. You never know what the future holds i.e. that site could really jump up in PR if the webmaster is working hard in SEO!

You see a dollar bill on the ground, do you leave it because its not a 10 dollar bill? no.

If you have a PR6 rank site you don't take link exchange requests from a guy with PR0 pages I think. but if you are in the range of PR2 or PR3 may be you should link to site without considering their PR

No. They don't hurt your Pagerank by any means... ofcourse, they can help you increase your Pagerank. All incoming links count, but if they are from a high PR sites, the process will be a little quicker.

No effect more than your site can get keyword ranking and unique visitor. PR doesn't matter today. Everyone need uique visitor so you can get one way link. It may be PR0 or may be PR heigh.
