Well, following my previous thread about affiliates, and reading some ebooks on the subject, I have decided I want to give it a try. I think I've learned all about everything a newbie needs to know on the subject, but there's just one bit of info I seem to be missing: How do the affiliate programs know that you made the sale???? Thanks, Simon
If a user visits their site via your affiliate link, a cookie is stored in the user's browser, usually for 6 months or so. Then if the user later makes a purchase, the cookie enables them to identify that you were the referrer, and you'll get credit for the sale.
There's no code necessary, you don't really even need a website to market online. The only thing unique is the link you give out. The link should have some sort of affiliate tag that lets the affiliate program recognize that the customer came through one of your links. I want to stress that you don't need a website, but it is very recommended.
Ahh, of course, should have thought of that really +rep for you I know all the basics of affiliate marketing (well, I think I do ) because I've read a few ebooks and have been monitoring this forum closely, so know that you don't have to have a website etc. Thanks for your help mate
I would suggest that you use Market Leverage to get started in affiliate marketing. They have a great staff and you can check out a review of them from me at http://www.jeremiahcooper.com/?p=20
Cool, have already heard of them but not really looked into them. Also, are there any affiliate programs that offer payment into Paypal?
The affiliate programs i have listed at my home page all payout with PayPal. I only use Paypal affiliate programs as it makes collecting the money very easy.
