From a coding perspective, it's brilliant and by far the most original browser out there today. But this isn't reason for most casual users to make the switch (except for Google's astounding reputation in all things internet related). It also needs to compete with the highly-customizable Firefox that's got thousands of extensions and themes.

On a positive note, it is by far the fastest browser (according to technical tests - yes, even faster than FF and Sarari). And, as has been said, Google has their way of killing the competition (usually for the better, too),

But Chrome is open source and Google encourages other browsers to learn from it, so if FF implements the now Chrome-exclusive features that make it s'damn good I doubt it will take a significant percent of the market. But I have faith - it's my default browser atm :)

I don't see it taking over right now. They will have to do a lot of upgrades to it to even compete.

I just replied to this same post in another forum, My Opinion is Chrome just another browser. I won't change and Most FireFox users I know will not change. If Chrome wants users they will need to prove themselves worthy. I think google has already overextended their share of the market place. Look for some new big boys soon.

Actually, the user agent is listed as Mozilla/5.0, so in a way it seems to be somewhat built upon it. I wonder if Chrome will ever be backward compatible with Firefox addons/extensions.

I'll still be sticking with my FF for now though, at least until it makes it out of Beta.

There is a long way to go before it can ever be considered the browser of choice and although it will probably become established just because it is google not everyone will find it to their taste personal preference and all that i envisage both IE and firefox being around for years to come old habits are hard to break.

If there were good no. of useful plugins, I dont see why it would not out number any browser for that matter

THeres nothing in chrome that actively promotes its other services, have you even used the Chrome browser yet??

And for the record every internet explorer install comes with a host of bookmarks, some of them sponsored.

I think the greatest threat will be to Firefox not IE.

I can see a three browser world with FF for developers and 'web people', Chrome for Googlers (and that may include users of a future Google OS) & IE for Windows users.

Chrome will barely survive. It's just too odd looking.

That makes no sense. Microsoft packages IE on every new copy of Windows and most people are not good enough with computers to be able to download a different browser.

I think chrome will face an uphill battle since IE and FF are also developing newer versions of their browser.
