Is my title SPAM for search engines?

Hi,

I would like to know if Google, Yahoo or MSN would consider the title of my website as spam.
My title goes like "Contract Job Marketplace for Webmasters, Freelancers, Programmers, Translators, Custom Web Designers and more..."
Am I using too many commas???

Please help...

 

Not certain about the number of commas but, major search engines does not welcome keyword stuffed titles .

 

It is likely that some SE's might find the commas spammy, not sure either.

I suggest you target each keyword phrase on individual pages. Don't try to target "Webmasters, Freelancers, Programmers, Translators, Custom Web Designers" on one page.

Your title does not looked like spam to me
However, you are diluting your title and giving you a harder chance to complete with your competitors who only target Freelancers, Programmers etc..
The title tag should restrict to 40 - 60 characters including spaces.

Just like what Tue Skaarup has mentioned, it would benefit you more in a long run by targeting only a few words in different pages instead of diluting every pages.

No your title does not look spammy to me. (No repeated words and you are targetting users not SE), but yes you are diluting your search engine chances of ranking well by targetting may terms.

 

I would not mind using exactly the same title. I don't believe search engines will treat titles as spam simply because they exceed desired number of characters.

 

I'd get rid of the "and more..." part, I have read around the place that some SE's are against the "and more" conlusion to a title or description - it just is offend the on the end of a well keyword stuffed sentance which is generally what they are trying to weed out. In addition to that the "..." serves absolutely no purpose.

Personally, I'd conclude with "Translators and Custom Web Designers" no full stop. Odds are anyway your full title isn't going to be read by most users browsing Google, Yahoo or MSN becuase after around 50 characters they tend to stop displaying the title - that's not to say they don't consider the characters from 50 - 80, it's just they don't really display them. So I'd get your keywords in there and sum it up quickly rather than to finish it like a sales pitch (there's no point no one is reading it).

 

I'd suggest limiting your titles to the main keywords of each page, and by "main keywords", I mean the base keyword or keyword phrase for the page. This will be more impactful from an SEO perspective, as you won't be "diluting" your main keywords with secondary keywords, and it will make more sense from a visitor's perspective, as well. You can optimize for secondary keywords within the content of your page.

Titles should obey a theme for looking at standards ( for visitors)
As far as commas are considered, dont worry.
SE dont consider punctuations.

I'd keep the title simple and to a few words with no "ands". Place the rest of it in your page header or content in bold to really identify the services you offer. Make it stand out, but not in the title.

 

I suggest to make your title focus on a 1-2 keyword depending on the page.
