The reason could be that major website owners set their site so that they are only from US / uk based traffic
so that means more sites you need to fight with 0o

so logically that means you may have lower rankings

The bookmarking accounts used may have been identified as Indian. Perhaps the google toolbar is installed and is providing information back to Google.

I don;t think the location from where the links are submitted actually has any weight on the argument. The only reason that I feel you are ranking on Indian sites might be due to 3 way linking and one of them maybe an Indian geotargeted website, also as bogart said, ppl bookmarking in social bookmarking websites are Indians?? and that might also resulting into this.

geo targeting (webmastering tools) is not a magic wand.

it has only a minor effect.

it is quite possible that there is much less competition (for keywords that you are targeting) in google.co.in.

and hence you rank much better in google.co.in

does your site also show up when you select "pages from India" in google.co.in?

do you mean to say that for google.com your site is nowhere to be found ??
maybe it will just take a little longer ?
it would greatly help to see the site's URL ...

Reciprocal linking with Indians sites will always casue it.

I have a site that this has happened to. And yes when "pages from India" in google.co.in the site returns #1 for competitive keywords.

Well, we cannot blame justnaturally, because he wants an SEO that can only cost him a very cheap $$$, that's what you can get, justnaturally, you are blinded with cheap cost for search engine optimization. You probably been happy to have an Indian SEO because you got their services for a vey very low services. Did you see the result? Does it pays to have an SEO for cheapest service? LOL... Yeah, get Indian cheapest SEO again.

It could only be due to several very strong links that come from India sites... the rest could be from anywhere else

That's a good theory worth looking into.

I don't think it matters were the sites are being bookmarked from. However, the bookmarking accounts make have been identified as Indian. Perhaps the accounts were set up with gmail.

Well, as an SEO, I always see to it that I work on the /intl/en/ if my clients are from US and .co.uk if my clients are from UK. Because their target for market is in the nearest location where they reside or where their products/services are located too. Eventhough marketing in the cyberspace can be from any location but basically, clients would want to see the results from where they reside and then just expand from there.

maby the reason for that is that the indian links builder use google search to find your site (i use it in order to have the address of the page i am linking to)/. and this had an impact on google search results

well, no formal definition for google.com/intl/en/, but its more on geo-location of the google site where most of the domain are registered and hosted there, it was located in USA actually. Well, we know USA is a base where competition are risen. This is just my opinion, as I don't have exactly the facts to support this, but in my experience as an SEO/Web Developer, this is what I am doing, promote sites at google.com/intl/en/ search engine.

There must be less competition in Google India for your keyword, that's why you are ranking on top. My site does not have even a single backlink from Indian sites and still it's on the top, while in Google UK and others, it is a bit below.

I would imagine (i have no actual proof, however it has happened to me) that Google has an algo which determines the geographic location based on searches and click through rates.

I noticed that when I started working on link development (US based links) on my own web site, I would search goolgle (.co.nz) constantly checking the fluctuations in serps. I think Google has processed that imformation, and came to the conclusion that the majority of people (I would have been at least 50% of the total vistitors/googles) searching for those words and clicking on my link, which were all from NZ (which I am based) and therefore it has tagged the site as being based in nz.

The is only an educated guess.. How to correct it would be to specify geo in Google webmaster tools and start putting a few "usa", "new york", etc keywords in links.

    hi,
nice discussion, i am doing SEO from last 5 years, but i not know many of my site first rank in India then in google.com
i am having track record that all my sites having extension .com always ranked well in google.com instead of co.in
same as if site was .co.uk then i was in top in UK search but not in .com.

How you guys can blaim that this is because you hire an Indian company, even my site still not so good in India but it appears in top in .com

i think you all should think once again...
