it's sure negligence on mother's part...

when the pets are around we should make sure that baby should not be left alone..

Pets and babies usually don't mix unless there's adult supervision because you'll never know something like this might just happen.

I read the article, and in my opinion the mother would be guilty of neglect. She left the 2 month old baby in a swing alone with the puppy for 2 hours, while she took a nap. She made a serious mistake in judgement. In addition, police believe she may have drug problems, and that is why she didn't hear the baby cry. Not to excuse what happened, but it sounds like she is a 17 yr. old girl who was completely unprepared for parenthood. This was not an intentional crime, and I believe throwing her in jail wouldn't be of benefit to anyone. I hope she gets some life intervention, in a positive way. Something like probation with some counseling, life skills education, and drug rehabilitation.

Oh my goodness, it is indeed negligence on the mother's part. But I can't understand why the dog can turn to become so hostile in the first place. It's not the usual characteristic of a lab.

The only baby swings I have ever seen are the automatic ones, they gently swing back and forth. This was not a full grown dog, it was a puppy. Of course I'm only guessing, but perhaps it started with the puppy wanting to play with the swing going back and forth.

What a sick story. Especially since I am both an animal lover and also the owner of Lab. I admit she will eat just about anything is extre, ely hungry all the time.

I have to admit that Labs are opportunists and tend to need a lot of training and discipline or they REALLY run wild. I live in Hawaii (Kauai island) and we have a lot of wild chickens here and my black lab Molly is like that, she is always attacking them even when i restrain her strongly.

I was surprised to here that it was Lab that did this. I guess I can understand since it was a puppy. I would never leave my kid unattended for any amount of time, especially around a dog.

That is just horrible! I can't even imagine what that poor baby must have gone through. It said in the article, that the grandmother and mother were both at home sleeping. IMO, they should both be held responsible for that child's death. How could you not hear a baby crying in complete and utter agony?! Why was the baby left alone in the first place? My guess is that mom and grandma wanted some sleep and couldn't be bothered with tending to the baby!

This is the first time I have ever heard of a Lab ever being like that, I blame the mother how do you leave your child and go and sleep.
