    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

If you could only use ONE marketing method, what would it be?

    Hi all,

I'm doing a little research for a writing piece and I have a question:

If you were limited to ONE marketing method, what would it be?

Feel free to include your site link or genre with your answer, as obviously adsense sites won't use adsense for marketing etc :)

Word of mouth and third party referrals. This type of advertising has the highest conversion rate by far and only involve making your product or service the best it can be, which is the foundation to a successful business anyway.

Press releases! The exposure is twice as fast and twice as effective for short term marketing as articles. At least that's been my experience. Plus, you can use them both online and offline :)

Hmm nice topic. I just started writing articles but press releases seem really promising.

Cool. So I could pretty much sum it up as: 1. Word of mouth and 2. Articles. Right?

So I guess word if mouth would be all about social media, right?

I'd have to go with word of mouth a targeted backlinks on other websites. I haven't spent any money on promoting my product in weeks, but i still get people interested in it.

Traditionally for the last 24 years I have operated mostly by word-of-mouth and referrals. Part of that time I did some advertising in one trade magazine. In the early years I sent out postcards once per year to about 100 customers. Never have been listed in the Yellow Pages because they do not target my customers at all.

Today? For the last 2 years, the most cost-effective way has been via my website (http://mmerlinn.com). With over 4000 pages meticulously indexed by Google, that site generates 90% of all sales. And the conversion rate runs close to 75% of all inquiries.

Actual cost of the website runs about $8 per month versus $200 per month for a 1 inch trade ad which generates fewer dollars.

So, today, a website would be my choice as the only marketing strategy and in reality it IS the only marketing I do anymore.

    or not

As I'm trying to promote my sig site, I'll throw in blog commenting but I'd probably throw it out in favour of articles if push came to shove.

Articles ahve to be the best overall on the long term. There are a lot of various one time or one hit types of advertising available on th internet but for the long haul I think articles are the best.

Without a doubt article writing on crack! In other words an article that had massive appeal and those ideas come around only once in a while. On crack because it has to be super charged, not just a good article but something like "Candidate Obama or McCain had sexual relations with that girl.................... "
Obviously being the person with that information is in the cat bird seat and won't happen but if it was the only method available I would try to write something beyond awesome.
