I was wondering what is better in your opinion, catchy/smart articles tittles vs articles with relevant keywords in them? What do you do and what is your opinion? Would be nice to start a decent debate and help some new members out?
Both: Catchy smart titles with key words and phrases in them. It's not always easy to do and it can often look spammy, plus sometimes you really just can't beat a real catchy title for getting attention, so a good balance of the two works well for me wherever possible.
As Lever said, both but if you can't get a good match of catchy titles with the right keywords then I'd say go for a catchy title. Catchy titles should ideally get you more attention, which would mean more people reading your content and if your content is as "catchy", then it'll get you more links and referrals. You could also consider having a catchy title for your article while putting another keyword rich title in the <title> tag.
Hmmm some good info but if you had to choose, either sound like another small insignificant light in the see of crap information or be individual? So its SE ranking vs Sounding individual to your readers in other terms.
Its probably more of a balancy of mixing a keyword (for SEO benefit) and something which will draw clicks. Its probably best to use trial and error !
Definately both, there's no reason why you can't include your keywords while making the title readable to maximise CTR. Anyone that does a lot of PPC will be pretty good at this and you start to see how important it is to write catcht titles and descriptions. Sometimes the difference in CTR can be anywhere from 0.5% to 1.5%, for a query that receives 2000 searches each day, 0.5% = 10, or 300 visitors per month 1.5% = 30, or 900 visitors per month For natural search rather than PPC you can scale those CTR up the further you get up the page.
See im not that mathematical about things and just a small pee in the sea of wee But sometimes you just cant sound smart or witty with a certain tag line in your title.
You can normally have the best of both worlds. Here are some title examples: [Keyword] - Everything You Need To Know 7 Top Tips on [Keyword] Forget Everything You Thought You Knew About [Keyword] There are so many you could come up with. Obviously depending on the keyword you would have to play with the wording. From an SEO stand point it is best to have the keyword near the start of your title.
Then you meed to make you choice; do you forgo writing a clever heading just to try and boost your KW count or can you afford to let this key phrase go just to get those inquisitive clicks? Practice makes perfect and in time you can learn to squeeze key phrases into clever titles and then some days you're just not in the mood/ can't find inspiration etc.. writing is one of those things; you're either a natural or you're not, some people can work at it forever and never get it right whilst others will certainly "get there" with experience. Oh the fun of wordsmithying
"Click here to get a Lamborghini for free" is attention grabbing but not witty unless you are not giving away Lamborghini cars for free ofcourse
Witty = Witty Attention grabbing = attention grabbing It's not really a difficult concept to understand that by using attaention grabbing titles like "Cosmetic Surgery - FREE Consultation" is going to increase the CTR What do you want me to say?!?!?
