Ok, this might come as a long post but I truly hope this will push you to the next level.

... So a friend of mine kept complaining about a problem she had. So I decided to help her. I go on Google and try to find some info... I realize there is NOTHING on the right side of results (PPC).

So, I go to do a quick keyword research and it turns out there are over 150 000 monthly searches in this niche!!! And NO ONE SELLS anything to them!

I call up my friend and ask her if I found a guide that tells how to deal with her problem - would she pay for it?

She says: " Heck yes! Alex, I am desperate - as long as I get that info, I would be more than happy to pay 40-50$ for it"!

... Well, why not try to create a guide and sell it to these desperately hungry crowd?

I ask my friend to write down at least 20 most important questions on that subject. I ask her friends with the same problem to do the same and by the end of the day I have about 100 different questions...

The next day I book an appointment with a specialist on the subject and ask her to answer these 100 questions, I record everything on a voice recorder. Later on I will be transferring the voice file into text and BANG! I have an ebook! I will keep the audio file and use it as an upsell for the same product!

... So what is the moral of the story?
Opportunities are everywhere. Just open your eyes, listen to people's problems and you might stumble across something great!

I don't know if the product will sell well - but would I ever know if I don't try?
Money follows action! If you don't take action will you ever make money? I doubt so... So DO SOMETHING!

    Alex

I suppose what you're saying is that it's easy to find opportunities that are undiscovered. And while I can respect that notion (after all, who would've thought that the water for gas niche had any kind of potential), it's a far safer bet to go into niche that has a proven track record. Ordinarily, I would agree with you. But recently I got burned by going into an undiscovered niche, so it's probably just a personal thing with me. Good luck on your ventures, though!

If the niche doesn't have competition, and doesn't necessarily means you've found a goldmine.

There must be some reason for no competition. Maybe people in that niche don't buy or there are many free solutions...

Sure, I agree with you, but the opposite is also possible.
(Water4Gas, E4E - had no competition when they first launched)...

It's not even about competition - it's about studying the market and figuring out if they'll pay for what you are offering or not. It's about KNOWING what your market wants, not about thinking what they want...

Anyways, the point of this thread is that people should take action! No action = no money. It doesn't get any simpler than that - no matter what kind of busimess you are running.

No, it isn't ready yet. But as I said you need to take action - and this is what I am doing :)

That's exactly how you do it Alex. You are thinking like a pro. Yes, it takes work and the idea may just totally flop. Even if you do this 10 times and 9 out of ten never take off, eventually one will and you'll be vacationing on the islands very soon.

I think that Alex has the right idea. It is all about discovering new niches and carving out new pathways. I, for one, would like to be the person who put out the first Xbox 360 red lights book or in the water for gas book. So, I think that what most of us are trying to say is don't get disappointed if you find less of a market for the product than you think should be there. Again, best of luck and keep us posted on the results.

    Exactly!

...Unfortunately many people do not understand that it is better to fail 9 products out of 10, than not fail anything... because you haven't done anything.

EVERY successful businessman FAILED at some point, many even went bankrupt a few times - but it didn't stop them and now they are scoring millions of dollars. They had to fail in order to learn how to NOT fail next time.

... and now, when we are talking digital info products - you can't really fail with it. Worst case scenario - you lose a few hundred dollars and a few days of your time... who cares?
And if you cannot afford losing a 100$-500$ (while trying to launch a new product) than you are simply not a good enough marketer... I am sorry to say this, but launching a brand new business with a hundred bucks - WHERE else would you be able to do so?

    Good Luck,

    Alex

My saying is - "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained"

Out of about 13 products I have made only 4 of them came at a loss. A small loss in money and a bit of time. A result like this is great.

My 1st product: www.importajapcar.com started giving me a few hundred $$ per fortnight and from there I was hooked.

Looks like you have found a great niche, If it were me - I would chase it. :)

    Congrats

You don't shoot, you don't score.

I do think that knowing people will be buying is good. But someone has to be the first.

This is GOLD, my friend. Someone always has to be the FIRST. There are MILLIONS of niches that people overlook... Yes, maybe they will not make you a million overnight, but $1000-$5000 a week is not bad either.

It is marketer's job to fulfill client's needs, but it is also a marketer's job to create a need.

What I actually did to work out what product I would make next was set up a rating system

I lined up all my ideas and rated them by things like: How hungry the market is, competition, search volume, how easy to make the product, and a few other things.

I set all this up in excel and whatever product idea got the highest rating I would make next. I just go with gut feeling now but doing this gave me a good idea of how a product would perform :)

    That's a great idea, Swerd.
I think being disciplined and having a plan is very important in a business.
... and it seems like your rating system is working out for ya :)

    Thanks man, very helpful information.

Just wondering though, since most people create pen names and use other people's pictures on sales pages, where do they get those pictures/permission to use those peoples pictures? (Talking about the eBook authors photo)

I recently launched my own 2 products and they're doing OK, but not as well as I had envisioned.

This business isn't easy and it does hurt when you don't get the result you're after. Especially when you put so much time, energy and money into a project. But compared to brick and mortar businesses, it's peanuts.

However failing isn't a bad thing - failures are just learning lessons. The more action you take the closer you're going to get to succeeding - no matter how many failures you need to go through.

I've been in IM for over a year now and its been a giant roller coaster. When I started, I didn't make a single sale for months. Then I built momentum and was averaging $200-$500 profit/day with the water 4 gas and RYCOW boom. I thought that was it, I had fkn made it. But within a matter of time, now I'm usually making under $100/day profit and sometimes losing money.

Since 2 months ago when google came down on the HHO niche, I've been overwhelmed and stressed that I was 'failing'.

Fortunately I was lucky enough find one simple exercise which lifted this heavy load nagging away in mind.
It started off with a quote I found from my mate's website
This really connected with me, so I got out a piece of paper and a pen. I wrote down exactly where I am in my life right now in all areas. Then I wrote down exactly where I want to be.

INSTANTLY the stress, the fear had all disappeared. I was now able to see clearly now that I had it all down on paper. Now this is a simple little exercise, but it really helped me.

Alright that's enough from me, time to start going to where I want to be!

Well, I used my own picture for OneMonthAffiliate.com
If I publish other products with pen names - I might still use my own photo. If not, I'll just ask some friends, I don't think they'll mind :)

    That is amazing!
The quote you posted is just... true! Set a goal and get there no matter what! When You reach your goal - make a new one ;)

Great example. I remember the moment Swerd's Jap Car product came onto this forum. My first reaction was: "Holy Crap, who will ever buy this?" But apparently "buy they did," and Swerd hasn't looked back since. You just never know what kind of niche or sub-niche is out there ... :)
