    [cross-posted at V7N)
I happen to be out in Baltimore visiting my wife's family which timed well since the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research was having their 10th anniversary celebration. I took a picture of V-E outside the Medical Center ... and then was surprised to find out that V-E was already posted on their history/accomplishments board - they are checking Google daily and hoping the big "G" bumps their entry up two spots! ;-)

That is absolutely correct ... and yea, you better believe I'm hoping to see my charity site move up two spots in the next 41.5 hours ... but at this point, it is all up to the big "G" to call the photo finish for us -Nintendo also is correct that it can change quickly - good luck everyone - has been fun! ;-)

Have to say I don't really agree with that, if your running a competition should you really get involved in trying to sway the results?

Its pretty strange for him to do that, someone running a competition shouldnt really get involved in helping other people in it.

If I was watching the football and the referee crossed the ball into the box for one of the teams to score it would be somewhat ..wrong. Competitors obviously get up to all sorts but the referee needs to remain neutral imo.

The believe the context of the previous comment was that JimW is a winner even if he doesn't win this SEO contest because he has garnered some nice press which certainly will benefit him in his SEO business.

Good spot - I wondered if anyone would notice that.

What happened is I show up there, I recognize Pam Kings voice and say "hi", Dr. Fasano comes over and says "I recognize your face Alek" and we chat for a minute as I notice the V-E up on that board. They are starting up the presentations shortly, so I grab a magic marker and scramble to write out V-E real quick ... the first word is easy, but I've always struggled with the second word ... and cut-n-paste ain't going to work this time!

Since I'm posting pictures, here's what they look like - pleasure to meet 'em in person.

BTW, any theories from anyone why MarcusW appears to have dropped to #6?

I thought his 301 strategy was pretty solid - get two sites in the top-10, and redirect one to the other. He also got Steve's top-15 site pointing to is. I saw an initial boost, but now appear to be fading, even though he has TONS of links. I don't believe this is a Google Bowl since it's a gradual slight decline.

P.S. Some lates moves by http://www.maxlinks.org/ - anybody know the story on them?

You say Marcus is slipping, I dont think its that as much that as a couple of stronger sites coming through. He's not dropping off or anything - just not scoring as highly for all that coop weight.

Now it is too late for any actions on the contest with around 24 hours left.

IF it happens that I come #1 and win this contest I will send a certain, yet undecided, amount of the prize money to alek for the celiac research.

It is a noble act of Alek and Scott to do so. I wanted to to give my best shot at this contest without any benefit of charity motives and now when it's pretty much over I can say this.

Thanks Jim. BTW, as noted in V-E FAQ, any prize money should be donated directly to the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research rather than via me - i.e. I never see/touch the money. The CFCR can accept online credit card donations and checks, but does not have a PayPal account - yes, I have suggested they get one ... ;-)

And while we have another 24 hours to go (and it ain't over until it is over!), Google's results have been the most stable I have ever seen with the top-6 unchanged in the last day+ on all datacenters and API tools ... almost makes me wonder if there is a hand job going on (?)

One thing i dont get is why so many people have put so much time and effort into the contest which was around 5 months? For just $7000. I understand the charity site as its for charity although in 5 months you could earn alot more than the prize fund on the time spent on the seo of the site and just donate that. If the entries are from 'seo professionals' then arent these the guys who charge $10,000 atleast per job for seo and sem why bother with the contest? Not trying to knock anything just wondering from the top ranks if seo is your job or hobbie or your posistion in seo before the contest etc. :)
