I'm thinking of creating a site: Customers would buy content. I would charge the customers money. I would pay the content contributors monthly. What would be the best system for this? Should I just use Paypal or is there something better suited?
Paypal is definitely the easiest fastest way to get up and running.. Always try to look at your business form the outside and ask yourself, would I use this service, and trust their payment method. For example, if you put on your website that you will only accept western union wire transfer most customers will leave your site immediately as this is how most internet scams are run. I would also advise getting someone outside your company to look at your website and give you honest feedback. If you dont have anyone to do that I'm sure you can find a few people around here ot help. I wouldn't mind helping.. Take care and good luck, Ed
paypal is convenient and widely used. using your own merchant account with a gateway will cost you less. offering more options to pay is better if you can use several major options at the same time/variety.
Yea paypal is the easiest, however not the most professional. When I see a reputable company using paypal, I for some reason think less of them. They should be using high tech merchant account.s
Thanks for the reponses so far. But I hope you can also address the second part. It's not just a matter of charging customers. I also want to use the same system to forward on payments to my content partners. So would it be best to Paypal and then forward on to my partners their cut with Paypal? Would Moneybooker be better for that? I am looking for a total solution, not just for charging the customers, but for handling those additional payments. If I just use a merchant account gateway, then I'm going to have to do a lot of extra work using Paypal or mailing checks anyway.
Paypal would be the best payment gateway as far as concern , moneybookers and paypal have same fees. You can also opt for 2checkout but it have higher fee. Just advising - Use paypal - a broad method of accepting and distribution of payment.
paypal is not the best but we dont have that much choice since its the most widely used payment processor.
You will find pay pal easy however, they are not the cheapest. SWREG.org is what I use and they are cheaper however you have to know what you are doing. Or hire an expert.
I agree Paypal is expensive. Would I be able to send on payments to partners with SWREG.org? It looks like a merchant provider which means I'd still have to find another system to forward on payments. I'm not worried about the technical aspects, because I can probably figure those out.
paypal is probably the most convenient but I would checkout egold and moneybookers. They seem to be comparable with what paypal provides
Start out with Paypal if you get successful upgrade to a full merchant account with virtual terminal, gateway etc. Paypal & 2Checkout can get very expensive when you start running a lot of transactions.
