I have started a forum about 3 months now. Within that period of time I got significant progress. This is the current stats: Members: 699 Threads: 3,763 Posts: 24,011 And best of all we been able to provide a fun environment for all our members learning and sharing as we grow together. Based on the experience I like to put together a set of tips hoping this would help others interested: Contests: Contests really pays off keeping a new forum active. It also makes a reason for many members stay active. Supportive environment: We have to provide the attitude of supporting. Lot of people need help in different aspects of web marketing, SEO, design, development, and such. If we can provide an environment that help others people would fall in love with the place. Friends: Friends could really help, big time. Posting new topics, keeping the forum alive. At least you won't have talk to the wall yourself. Forum Marketing: Post on other similar forums. This would help you get new members. Innovative Approaches: Think outside the box, try to come up with marketing ideas thats been untapped. This will give you an edge over others. I am waiting for my 700th member to join now. Every bit is a progress moving to the next level.

Glad you joined pal. I see you already made quite a few posts already I will check out that email delay thing. Guess I got idea why it happened.
Thanks for the sales-pitch thread to get more posters disguised as a helpful thread. Good job on your success!
you shouldn't post like this on other people's thread...mods will probably give you infraction for this. @webcosmo - great job on the success. I think you are a great admin and really know how to run a forum.
Excuse me, I'm coming out with a contest of my own. How much traffic before and after the contest can I expect? And members signups too.
Traffic and signups would depend on lot of factors actually. Remember you have to market the contests, let others know that you are running a contest on your forum. If you have a good prize offered, with a well designed contest you can expect some traffic hike. But what you want is having people post at your forum and fall in love with it. Once you have regulars, others would join. The key here is you get the forum look busy.
