I just wanna ask .info domain don't worth as much as .com? Why do .info domain is sold at such low price??
.info just doesn't have the name recognition as a .com (commercial). Also I believe they are handled by different databases
The .com extension is the most widely used and therefore it is recognised as the 'standard' extension. If someone can remember a domain name but not the extension it they are most likely going to try .com first. Also, since .com has been around the longest there are less .com domain names left and, as with many other things, rarity brings value. A third point to consider is that .info is fairly new on the scene, and, like a fine wine , domain names get more valuable with age
Well said. Dot info is now 8 yrs old. Here is some history on this extension: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.info Of the newer extensions, it is one of the more popular ones. Due in part to their low initial pricing, it is also infamous as a spam extension, unfortunately. .
Oh, you did say fairly new. I took that to mean relatively new. Your post was well written. Just wanted to point out where exactly it stands in terms of age... + some background. .
I think .info has some spam connotation because of its low price so anyone spamming just registers a bunch of .info sites. Not many .info's really rank well in the SERPs... what say you?
a GEO Name in the .info extension is very valuable if you can get your hands on them. they rank well.
I think you are still generally better off finding a .com extension that is a little longer than you would like rather than getting a shorter .info extension for most business uses. However, I do think that for certain information uses where "info" makes sense in the context of the name, the .info extension will gradually become more accepted. Two of the links in my signature are to .info urls where I think "info" is appropriate.
As far as I know SE's are indifferent to the extension. Although I know (for example) google.ca (canadian) tends to return .ca links first when the query comes from canada. So to my mind keywords would be more important than extension unless you are trying to sell only in your local market. Nice to have cruises.com but cruises.(your extension) could be just as good.
From what I understand you are correct. The only benefit .coms is "type-in" traffic. After that if you can find good generic .infos and properly optomize them they will rank just as well.
.info in general are worth a lot less than the .com extension, simply because a lot more "average" people know the .com extension than the .info equivalent. Having said that, if it's a choice between a mediocre .com or a good .info, I would go for the .info.
