Anyone observed it ? For example how much advantage a .com would have on a, say something like a .info ? I am particularly talking about them in context with the SEO.
Noone can answer this for sure and everyone has their own opinion. A trusted .info domain can rank over a .com, and vice versa. That said, I'd always go for the .com if I can find a good one.
If you place links on other websites that statistically have better value than yours, you will climb the ladder quicker. Keep relevancy key, otherwise it might be assumed as link farming.
Domain is doesn't matter for SEO work.......... It's all depended on your working ethic and Most IMP is CONTENT............
Although you can use any type, we have found that there is a SE bias to the .com There is no documentation on this but we think the .com has been around for a longer period of time and will get a boost from "the Age" factor.
You can check this yourself. If you firefox that will be better.Try to type a domain name with extension (.com,.net,.org) and wait and see firefox search for .com first then .net so first priority goes to .com.But it has nothing to do when it comes to SEO.But .COM will be my choice.
Everyone seems to say no, but I have a feeling it makes a difference because I find it a little more dfficult to get a .infoto be worth anything much over $1000, as for coms and nets, they do better.
I can't say .com can outrank .info and vice versa.. I guess because most people searches for a .com so .com gets more visit / traffic and I agree .com is for commercial sites it matters in terms of publicity of services or products.
from what many gurus said all extensions have the same value. it just depend on how do you SEO your site. people just only familiar with .com and that's the big advantage.
i just bought about 50 domains all being extremely tightly niched geo domains all with very little competition. They sites are a variety of .coms .nets .orgs and .infos. I bought only the ones I could get my exact target keywords, with no dashes. I'm putting up 5 page mini sites on them, with about 250 to 300 words on each page. As soon as I get the site up, I bookmark each one on the same social sites and throw up a link on a couple of blogger blogs i have. All of them get indexed in about the same time frame. They all seem to get on the first page also within about 2 weeks or so. (these are very low competition key words) Each one gets about 5 to 7 hits a day - there isn't any considerable traffic difference.
I agree, i cant imagine wanting to launch a great memorable keyword and then spoiling it with a stupid .info ending. It isnt memorable and people are used to .com / .net / .co.uk etc
Exactly right... Generally users which are having offline business and not much more familiar with web, they usually know .com better than others. Good SEO can make possible other domains to get well ranked.
i agree with you scott. I hate to launch a huge site I had spent weeks on and use a .info domain, for me its just a psycological thing. I would prefer .com or even .net or .org. But Its kind of crazy I just went back and forth with a guy on a .com for 2 weeks and he wanted $2,500 for it and said he paid $2k for it 2 years ago. Anyway I just bought the .info for $1.99 from godaddy. This was a huge psycological delima for me - i really wanted the .com. but..... When you have 100+ undeveloped domains in your niche (that you have plans for), spending $2500 on another one just seems crazy. especially when you are just looking for a key word for seo purposes and the .info is available for $2
I think the .com helps, but the other things involved in SEO are really what make the difference. For the most part, when you Google your keyword phrase, chances are that the .com domain name is not going to be #1. Sometimes it is...but, more often than not, it's something else. Search engines aren't going to make it impossible for you to get a #1 ranking just because somebody beat you to getting the .com so they can make their spammy adsense site. If you have a real site, with quality content, and you optimze on-page factors and off-page factors, your .info, .biz, or whatever will climb the charts.
