How Good is the Nikon D40x, My professor wants us to purchase the Nikon. Is that the best camera for the money?
A wise friend said this to me, "Photography is like poetry - it doesn't really matter what sort of pencil or paper you use, it's being able to grab your camera and shoot when you see something special that matters." He's absolutely right.
I also plan to buy a DSLR camera. I think Nikon D40x is great. You can see the review here : http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d40x.asp
D40x isn't bad.. but it's a basic entry-level dslr. The main 'problem' is that this camera doesn't have a focus motor in the body, you need more expensive lenses that have the motor built in. All other NIkon cameras like the D80 (and up) have a focus motor built in, and therefor can use cheaper lenses. So if this camera is best for you depends on what you want to do with it.. and how important photography will become for you. If you need it for this course and won't do a lot more with it (except for holiday snaps, pictures for your website, ..) then it's very good and you probably won't find better value for money. Buy the D40x with kitlens and you'll take nice pictures and learn how photography and dslrs work. (and if you really get interested then you can always upgrade later to a better camera) If you already know you want to get serious into photography and do something special where you need other lenses for (closeup/macro photography of flowers or insects, or low-light photography: ie shoot at concerts) then in the end it may be cheaper to invest now in a slightly more expensive camera so you can buy cheaper lenses for it later.
I looked for D40 and D40x in every camera stores at my place, and I can't find them. The sellers said that it's difficult to find D40 or D40x these days. I knew that wasn't totally right but that's okay. And today I bought Nikon D60! My first DSLR camera. I like it very much. I have taken some photos and the result is awesome! Try it! Highly recommended!
I don't take a picture of it yet. Anyway, you can see the picture here : http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/ni...ages/front.jpg It's no different with mine at all.
I don't connect the camera with PC yet. I'm waiting until the battery is empty so I can recharge it for 6 hours (first time charge). Anyway, you can see some samples of D60 here : http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/nikond60_samples/
Rival with Tim? Hahaha... I chat with him by PM last night. I ask him some suggestions. He is a nice person. He helped me with some useful tips. He is a "GURU", mate. Can't be my rival.
How many megapixels does the D40 and D80 have? I would like 10. Which one has that? Also, what is a better camera brand in your opinion; Nikon or Canon.
D40 has 6 MP and D80 has 10 MP. Between Canon and Nikon, I don't know which one better. But I found that Nikon was cheaper and it got every features that I need so I bought Nikon. I bought Nikon D60 and I'm very satisfied with it. For more information about digital cameras, you can visit http://www.dpreview.com/
