    Hi guys,

I use a variety of method mentioned here i.e. blog posting, press release, link acquiring etc. However, I do not keep track of my spending since It's like a hobby rather than business. However, I like to change that habbit now.

Can someone with experience share his/her knowledge in this area? such as: using Excel or access or what type of software? and what to record and what not to record? any template?

I use excel the most, it gives you a variety of options to choose from which will help you do better calculations :)

Awstats for traffic tracking, DP keyword tool for tracking SERPs.

I use an Excel workbook with separate sheets for income and expenses. Every time I pay a business bill, it gets recorded, and every time a bit of income comes in, that gets recorded as well. I then categorize my income by project and by client so I can see where I should spend more of my marketing time and effort and where I can cut down.

What do you mean exactly? Actually tracking of how much time you spend marketing, or tracking what you do online?

I find using an excel spreadsheet for keeping track of things, it's simple just record all the information that is important to you.

For example I use a single sheet that shows all the sites I own, the date they were created and a function to show the sites current age. The sites into sections where each section is headed by the web host they are located on.

I record each month how much each site generates in income and what promotion efforts I have made.

For motivation I have a target in dollars/month I would like to reach and an automated query shows me in %, dollars and UK sterling how close I am to my target.

All you need to do is update it, without it I'd have no idea where I was at.

I just use a simple Word document to list where I am advertising. No need for anything more than that. At the end of the month I put down how much I have spent and profited from each place I advertise in.
