Going back to the original question, I think Cuil will still be around in a year time since they have some pretty big backers, do have some cash and prob know this is more a war than a battle.

The only way to beat Google is to differentiate, and they have done that more or less. From what I read above, some people do like the new interface. I guess to expect them to kick ass in release one is too much to ask when Google has set the mark so high now.

Well you can't really say where Cuil will be in a year. I pretty much lost hope on Cuil. Their search results are getting worse everyday. Can it even compete with Google? Forget about beating Google.

I think that Cuil needs more time... I surely hope they will get at least a small share of the search market. this market is in bad need of competition.

    cuil will not kill google...

    silly:eek:

google is more than a search engine.. it's a company that serves functions of the internet; therefore cuil has BIG shoes to fill before it "kills" google...

Right on! They would rather fill their own shoes with certain stuff (if you know what I mean) than filling Google's shoes :D

To answer the second part of the question about where will they be in a year, I will be cheeky enough to say "nowhere" as a company. 90% of people (including myself) doesn't even know how to pronounce "cuil".

If I want to tell my buddy about it over the phone, how do I say?
Hey, go to [see you eye ell] or
go to [kyuaill] or [syuill]? Ridiculous!

Besides the results are insubstantial and illegible. Why then displaying screenshots for some results? Either display all screenshots (at least for page1 results) or don't bother!

What makes you think that? How many times have you recently bounced off Google saying: "Yuck, I can't find what I want!"???

I personnaly use Exalead when google can't find something.

Google is good for general purpose. As soon as you need documentation for specific subject people don't use to wrote on blog ... you can't really find thanks to google.

I used Cuil for the first time today ... and I dislike it. Black screen ... to few real results on the topic I search ... What's the points having 10000 results, when the only first two lines are not interessting ...

I keep the Cuil link on my desk ... but I won't use it a lot I think.

Cuil has no chance. Google serves the function of a search engine well enough for even a demanding user such as myself. And the comfort factor of people just being used to Google so much is a definite plus.

Simply put, I don't see any way to create a SIGNIFICANT enough improvement over google to warrant people getting out of their comfort zones and trying something new.

I'm a bit shocked even I tried cuil cuz of the hype. But despite it's inherent pluses, I'm just way more comfortable with google. The only other search engine I TRIED to use for a while was goodsearch which donates ad revenue to my (or anyone's) charity. But I decided just to use Google and donate more myself, haha, that's how comfortable google is for me.

Cuil should first acquire KillGoogle.com to become successfull google killer , I think some search engine which chooses result manually for say top 10000 keywords and show only top 100 results will kill google.

Cuil will never be popular as Google.

Cuil is merely trying to imitate the success of Google. There is no new concept in cuil.

Whereas when Google first came it was one of the kind. It had no advertisements and had awesome search results and people loved it. ....

Cuil is just a imitation of Google .

I don't think cuil will kill google.

I think google is number 1 for many years to come.

But I know in my prediction that Hophunt.com will surely compete with google and cuil will be the thing of the past.

    Peace :)

Cuil is a search engine just like Google, MSN, and Yahoo. It's a new search engine with relevant results as what others say.
