Title Tag!

Does the amount of keywords in a title tag matter?

For example i am trying to rank for the keyword "Free Ps3". If my title tag looked like this.

    "Free Ps3"

Would this rank higher for the keyword "Free Ps3" than this,

"Free Ps3, Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 Elite"

All assuming i already have backlinks for "Free Ps3" which i do, but im ranked 11th and struggling to rank higher!

I think yes, not really sure but I see that more the keywords Google will consider all but if you have less Google will target that only. It's just a guess!

I know but, i do offer the others for free also. So you reckon just free ps3 then, will be best if i am trying to target this keyword?

By adding the other keywords though, does it actually affect my rankings?

I think if you put keywords only in title, but they are not present in the page, they will not be considered by search engines like google. I would check what people are searching. If they search for "free ps3" more than for "free sony ps3" + "ps3 and wii". I hope it's clear what I said, I would go for a niche.

Go with the short title tag. In fact, break the page into 3 pages. One for Free Ps3. One for Free Nintendo Wii. And One for Free Xbox 360 Elite. That way you might be able to rank for all 3 terms.

If you look at the top ten SERPs' <titles> for the keyword phrase "Free PS3" you get:

    • Free PS3 (Playstation 3). 100% Guaranteed. Proven Legit! - Free PS3! A REAL Free Playstation 3! Trainn Proof
    • Free PS3 Guide - How to get a free Playstation 3!
    • YouTube - Famous Free PS3 Video - The only one where I do all the work
    • YourPS34free.com - Get a Free Playstation 3
    • Free Ps3 — Blogs, Pictures, and more on WordPress
    • WANT A FREE PS3, WII OR XBOX 360
    • Get a Free iPod, Laptop, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Plasma TV and more
    • Sony offering free PlayStation 3 with HDTV purchase - Engadget
    • Accept Jesus Christ and Get a Free Playstation 3
    • PlayStation 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When you compair them to your:

    • ...!!!%% FREE Ps3 %%!!!...

They have a keyword density of ~25%, yours is 50%.

Notice how they used the keyword "free". This is how you double up on the keywords.

Keep the length to ~45 characters though and the density below 25% to start.

Second, and most important, I was told that Special Characters are a negative (I've opened a thread on this). This should get you feedback from the DP members.

    May I suggest:
    < title>Free-PS3 : Information on how to get a free Playstation 3 ( PS3 ) - Free-games-console.co.uk< /title>

Normally I would not recomment putting the url in the title but yours contains the word "Free".

Note there is a max of 3 "free" being used.
Note, there are 2 "PS3" being used.
    Note the Hyphen
    Note the Spaces

Also, if you get ~10 Google acceptable links, you will match your competition.

    Finally,
Add more text to the page (~30%)
Use a < h1> tag and this is not a proper use of it, There is no text.

    < h1>
    < a href="http://NextGen.Giveaway.co.uk/index.php?referral=202866">< /a>
    <img src="images/headeranimate.gif" alt="Free Ps3" width="574" height="50" /></h1>
    <h2>Want a Free Ps3, Nintendo Wii or an Xbox 360 Elite? </h2>

    May I suggest:
    < h1>
    < a href="http://NextGen.Giveaway.co.uk/index.php?referral=202866" title="Free-PS3 - Information on how to get a free Playstation 3">
    <img src="images/headeranimate.gif" alt="Information on how to get a free PS3 " width="574" height="50" /></a>
    <br>
Want a Free Ps3, Nintendo Wii or an Xbox 360 Elite?</h1>

    The negative:

You get clobbered by the Social Network links these guys have. The #1 has 571,082 links. But you should be able to take them.

50% keyword density in title is pretty much ok. Just do not repeat keyword in title more than twice. Perfect title would be

    <title>Get Free-PS3</title>

    Also

    <title>Free Ps3, Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 Elite</title>
    <title>Free Ps3 - Get free Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 Elite</title>

    could be good titles.

Actually I don`t think your current rank depends so much on title. Just get more relevant links and you will be moving upwards.

Title tags very important; I have one website that has an internal page tha that ranks high on Google for a keyphrase because of it appearing in the title tag, and not in the page content at all.
Based on no research I would prefer a short title tag.
