Simple technique I discovered accidently ;

    Here's a technique I accidently discovered when I received a comment from one of my customer. Thought of sharing with all of you as my first post :) (than an introduction post!!!!)

    =======================================
    Print your name in the minds of your visitors, readers, subscribers and customers.

    If you are in a business, you must be giving away freebies or selling products. Do you know that the files (pdf, doc, gif, jpg, zip etc) that you provide to your subscribers or customers, ends up in a trash folder of their computer?

    They buy from you happily and read it half and then they save your file in “some” folder, to read it later. After few days, they don’t remember that which file they have downloaded from your site.

    From today onwards, do this -> every file that you provide as a download, either as a freebie or as a paid product, rename it and include your own ‘name’ in the file name. For example, if the file name, originally, was ‘TrafficBuildingSecrets.pdf’, rename it to - YourName-TrafficBuildingSecrets.pdf. Next time, they look at the file, they will remember you!!!

    This is really powerful.

    You can further extend it to track the "rights", such as -
    Yourname-TrafficGuide-OwnUseOnly.pdf
    Yourname-TrafficGuide-ResellRights.pdf
    Yourname-TrafficGuide-PLR.zip

    You can even try including your website name,
    Yoursite.com-TrafficGuide-OwnUseOnly.pdf
    =======================================

    Enjoy,
    Annanya

    Adding .com to a file will be cause the file to be caught for a number of antivirus programs, like clam antivirus, and be tagged as suspicious and the file removed.
    Aside from that, the idea sounds very good.

    Now that is something I have never run across before!
    Wonder why the gurus of the net have never mentioned this?

    I guess it's common sense?

    I think I should write a php script which would turn any downloaded file into a MYSITE-filename.ext :) Some easy way to get your file remembered and it's great if the person is looking for all their files by you (so they can delete them all at once ;))

    That could be a drawback!
    Instead of hunting down files to delete, just look for the iowadawg files...

    You know, I have been renaming files for years, but not once did it hit me to add my name/website and no one ever told me this.
    I have created files using my name/website.

    The file naming is to be done by the seller (author) and not by the buyer (user). The idea is to keep your name appear again and again in front of your customers eyes :)

    But this also helps buyer to avoid an extra step of renaming the files.

    Actually, I tried it acidently and then I received a testimonial from one of my customers thanking me to go one step further and provide a easy-to-remember name for my info product. She said that it's very easy to locate and she remembers of me everytime she looks at the file :)

    You never know what makes your customers happy!!!

    That's what 99% of people dont have...

    I wonder why its called common sense? It should be called "uncommon" sense..

    I am using this method I think beacuse of the SEO names I am using for the html files so I am kind of having the same SEO optimized wording for download files also.
