Windows 7 wishlist.

    Hey,

    Haven't really seen an official Windows 7 wishlist, so thought about doing one.

    I have made a post on my blog with the wishlist. Check it out: http://jaxl.com

    So.. What do you want for Windows 7?

    I got some:
    • MAXIMUM 4 different packages. Vista's Home Basic, Home Premium, Enterprise, Business, Ultimate etc. is TOO much.
    • Improved taskbar:
      - Resizeable width. So it doesn't have to fill the screen 100%.
      - Improving multi-screen support (stretching the taskbar over several screens. Currently, it doesn't support that).
      - I pretty much like the rumoured "Superbar", with colorgroups etc.
    • Icon spacing grid. A transparent grid should fade in when dragging an icon. When it's dropped. The grid should fade out again. Would help a lot when customizing the desktop.
    • Move windows, even if they are parent to a dialouge, child box etc.
    • Sidebar:
      - Improved performance
      - Don't run as a program, but integrate it into Windows 7. Currently, if you use "Show Desktop" (Windows+D), the Sidebar is hidden, because it runs with application rights.
      - Make a dashboard-like overlay, to you press a shortcut, and then gadgets appears.
    • Remove UAC. It is annoying a lot of people, and doesn't make a big security difference (you can just click Continue).
    • Faster startup, better performance, fewer restarts.
    • Better scheduling of updates. Maybe, Microsoft releases 2-3 or more updates every day, and you computer will download then and want's to restart the computer to instal them. Schedule low priority updates to e.g. every Friday. High-priority (security leaks etc.) should be installed imideatly, but without interaction of the user.

    Give me your ideas!

    Heard they may implement touch screen controls in windows 7. That should be cool although I still question whether people want to use touch screen's when it comes to ordinary desktop pc's or laptops. Holding your arm out and touching the screen will get very tiring after a while.

    You're kidding right?
    There's tons of desktops/laptops that already have support for touchscreen controls.

    That's nothing special. :p

    @unr.: Yeah.. But currently, all versions of Windows do only support single-touch control. Windows 7 WILL support multi-touch, and an interface pretty much similar to the famous Microsoft Surface table. It was demoed at D6 earlier this year.

    Yes I know about that. But the point i'm making is with it's introduction in windows 7 it will become a fairly standard feature rather than the fairly small user base touch screen controls have at the moment. I however question whether it's a good feature to use on desktops and laptops.

    I think it's a really nice feature. Would ease the use of the PC when viewing photos, writing quick notes etc.
    Children could also use it for educational purpose.

    And imagine a screen e.g. in the kitchen with multi-touch. No keyboard, no mouse - simplicity and cleanness.

    Interesting, I know the concept.
    Didn't know that.

    All I want is for them to use multitouch on the touchpads on laptops like a mac. D;

    Well lets say that i have several harddrives in my pc, with the following;

    C:\Movies\
    D:\Movies\
    E:\Movies\
    F:\Movies\
    G:\Movies\

    When i'm borwsing for a movie i must check all or when i'm using my media center i must add mappings for;

    movies #1
    movies #2
    movies #3
    movies #4
    movies #5

    Ofcourse i'd like to show them all as just "Movies" - merging all maps, that can be done with a technic called junctions, but it's a little tricky and you must add a third-party tool or learn the cmd's.

    I'd like to see a smart way to hand such "merges"/"ghost mappings".

    =)

    Ahh.. Kewl... I'll add this to the list! I've also got folders called "Movies", "Music" etc. on several harddrives, so it would be awesome if I could merge them into "one" psychical folder.
