So, after the last 8 years being on a windows mechine, I've decided, I'm giving up, I have updated my computer a hell of a lot of thoses 8 years.

I'm moving to a mac, but keeping my vista mechine, i don't think windows is worth it much more, windows BSOD me a lot too, but I think thats hardware?

    Unix, mac :D

If you are moving to Macintosh, then post in the Mac forum if you expect any feedback.

Not in any in DP though.

Welcome - you will be happy, and you will now be able to "use" your computer instead of fight and fuss with it all the time.

I got my first Mac about 2 years ago, and just recently replaced the remaining WinXP laptop in the house with a MacBook Air - leaving our home now 100% Windows free..

One warning: All the Mac haters that pretend that they don't mind having to deal with spyware and virii on Windows will try to convince you that you're stupid, or OS X isnt as good as Windows, blah blah.. You'll have to learn to just smile and nod your head.. then go and USE your computer.. while they download their anti-virus updates, run their antispyware software, clean their registry and *snicker* defrag their HDDs..

I use my computer all the time and I have Windows. I really don't worry about spyware or viruses because A) I have free antivirus that protects me (and auto updates), and B) I'm not a stupid computer user. I have never gotten a virus or gotten any spyware on my computer. Common sense is all that's required, which is why some users HAVE to switch to macs :). I've used both (pretty extensively), and Windows helps ME get the job done quicker, because I know what I'm doing. Results may vary, but for me, Windows does it. It's generally personal preference. See what you like.

Congrats on switching none-the-less. It is one more opportunity that there may be a non-smug Mac user.

Oh and look at that, I didn't try to convince him that's he's stupid, or that OS X isn't as good as Windows. Amazing! (No seriously how many of those Mac commercials did you watch? All of them? How many are there? Jesus!)

Congrats on getting a Mac. I bought my first Macbook last year and i've been pretty impressed. I just built a new desktop and Vista is running just fine. I can live in harmony with both Vista and Osx. I can't see why others can't :p

Just rememeber from those Apple commercials. Take your computer into a Apple store, and a Mac Genius will help you transfer all your files over... if you don't know how to already.

I've used a iMac G3 with a 333MHz Processor, and less than 20MB of RAM, and I still notice it running faster than my XP machine with 3.2GHz Processor, and 512MB of RAM. Probably because its a Dell... :p

I was using my girlfriends mac that they gave her at her job, and I have to say that if it wasn't free neither of us would be using it.

As for viruses/spyware... Like any semi knowledgeable computer user, if I manage to pick one up, I know exactly where it came from and removing them is easy.

BTW you should do some research, there are viruses for mac's (most hackers are not going to write mal-code for 10% of computer users)

Most people should be using mac's due to the fact that every apple app/program/device works with each other every time. You need zero computer knowledge to run a mac. Windows is reserved for experienced users that want every thing to be customizable. The reason that most people have a PC is that their cheaper. That's it!

The mac commercials are terrible! They provide ZERO information about their products.
iPhone commercials are awesome, they provide a great showcase of the iPhone's potential, and why you should have one.

I will say iPod, iPhone and apple TV are all great products.

I grew up on macs, used Windows-based computers for the last decade, then just switch back to Mac a few months ago. No regrets. Mac OS X is by far the more advanced operating system over Windows and all Microsoft has done over the last few years is play catch-up.

Honestly, I've yet to run in to a program from my PC that I haven't be able to install a version of on my mac, or something even better from a different company.

I hear ya ... I too am saving some cash to get my first mac, but will definetely be going for the dual bootable OS because there will always be some software that you want to use that is certainly not compatable with the OS for some reason ...

saving some cash? Just get a $500 Mac Mini!

When i first started going the way of the Mac, i was going to use Dual-Booting as my safety-parachute, but yaknow what? i never needed it! Sure, there are some programs that dont have a Mac version, but there are always dozens of other programs that do the same thing from other companies that work just fine.
